Sunlit Sunday. Sitting in the sun and ready for the chef's hand.

Sunlit Sunday

Sitting in the sun, finally, and ready for the chef's touch.

Reflection of lavender plant in the griddle waiting
for HH to cook breakfast.
Makes me realize how blessed we are in so many ways.

I know this is not a glamorous shot of a beautiful flower or landscape but after all the damaging weather in and around Kentucky this week I felt a big heart full of gratitude when I walked into my kitchen and saw this scene.

We take for granted all the everyday things, like this simple griddle, the spatula we use with it, that we don't realize how terrible it would be with the side of the wall or the roof gone from our home.

All the scenes of destruction make me want to drop down on my knees and pray for all those folks and to offer a prayer for thanksgiving.

The wind is still making itself heard playing games with the sunshine.
Reminds me of hide and seek.

Wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving.  Kahlil Gibran quote

Day 4 of being grateful.

My friend who helps me clean my house was here yesterday.
Every two weeks she comes to do the hard things I am unable to do.
HH and I do the easy things as we are able.

Today I am grateful for this dear friend who has been with me for over 15 years.
My hired help, yes, also my friend.

Daddy Day and lots of fun

Mosaic Monday
A tribute to a great dad.
Father's day started out early with a dark, windy storm. The weatherman had said it would only last til about midday.
Well it did the sun came out and it turned out to be a glorious day.
All the chicks were there but the one out in Texas and he joined us later on web cam.

I so enjoyed getting some exercise in the water.
Good for old bones and joints.

I am grateful to God everyday for my loving family.
Am hooking up with Mosaic Monday with Mary.
Go here.

Saturday March 19th 2011
Super Moon

We will share this Day of the Lord.

They are the first flowers to appear in our landscape this year.

And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow, they toil not, neither do they spin.

Matthew 6:28

These are the first flowers I so enjoyed setting out on Saturday.
Dear God I thank you for the gift of flowers and of better health today.

Thanksgiving Day 2010

To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant,
to enact gratitude is generous and noble,
but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven.
~Johannes A. Gaertner

When I awoke this A.M. the sun was not completely up so I decided to watch the sunrise and offer my thanks for all the beauty and blessings around me.
Sun rising on this Thanksgiving day.

Sunrise reflected on my kitchen door with delicious, cozy aromas from the indoors.

Mosaic Monday

Mosaic Monday time again.
You just gotta love it.

I keep exploring all the photo enhancing tricks out there and I love it.
This is a shot for FSO, looking UP.
Looking UP at the huge chimes in the tree in our backyard.
HH said it looked like some kind of weapon.

Thanksgiving day #15, I think.
Grateful today for warm sunshine, the breeze in the air and the joy of being with loved ones,
sharing memories, good food and good laughs.
Home and family are the greatest.

Take it like a real woman Zenyatta

I am grateful for the wonderful diversity of the seasons in my part of the world.
For the beautiful splash of color in the fall, the softness of the snow in winter, the tenderness of new life of spring and the carefree days of summer.

Well I am disappointed that Zenyatta did not win first place on Saturday, but she sure put her heart into second place.
I thought she was gonna make it.
Beat by 1/2 a head.
That's the way it goes.

From what I learned about Zenyatta this week, she loved being herself, happy just being, wherever she was. She spent yesterday just cooling it around the grounds while all the hoopla was going on.
She ran second and she was as proud after the race as she was before.
I have been reading Proverbs and I pray for wisdom.
Winning first place isn't everything.
Zenyatta is a wise ole gal.

I guess I am a feminist. I must admit one of the reasons I wanted her to win was she was the only female against the males.
But, after all, for me, it takes nothing away from her.

There is nothing more beautiful than a Woman Of Wisdom.

I said if she won I would put her on my header.
She is on my header anyway.

update

As I can only sit for short period of time, I am  doing a short gratitude for the Thanksgiving period.
I so miss everyone and thanks for your good wishes and encouragement.
I am thankful for our current medical system that allows for quick treatment.
Hope it continues that way.
Yesterday I had my tendonitis shoulder taped into a position to prevent forward sag. LOL . Yes that is sag like in getting old.
I have an electronic stimulator attached to my back that emits little buzzes of electricity to break up the pain in the back.
It is called a TENS unit
Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation.
The ironic thing is, because I have had back problems for eons I already had one of these and had forgotten about it.
This is the worst episode I have had in some time.
Probably because of the fall I took a couple of weeks ago.
As soon as they hooked me up to one at the clinic I remembered I had one and immediately came home and got it going.
Now it is ice, TENS and rest.
The rest is the thing that gets me, I am stubborn and have all kinds of things I need to do.
That's God's way of telling me to slow down and smell the roses, even if they make me sneeze.
Won't have time to read and comment on all my blogger friends but just wanted to say Hi and I love you all sitting here in buzzer land. LOL
My physical therapist is one of my best friends and I love her dearly.
I put my trust in her.
She will have me up and going soon.
Blessings.

VTT- Grandmother's meat platter

I have had many of my grandparent's things which had passed down to my mother and now share them with my brother and his children and my children and grands.
We always had huge family dinners at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
One of the highlights of those holiday meals, was the meat platter.
Whether it was turkey, country ham, or pot roast this was the meat platter used.

Richard Alcock Platter
Royal Ironstone.

It looks white, but it is ironstone and is cream colored.
There are a few wear marks on it. My mother told me it was a wedding gift for my grandparents wedding in 1912.

There is no visible mark on the bottom but I can see where the mark has been worn away.
This is what I found on research.

"Central Pottery
This old established pottery was formerly worked successively by Hopkin & Vernon, Hulme & Booth, Thomas Hulme, and Burgess & Leigh, who were succeeded in 1870 by Richard Alcock, by whom the works were considerably enlarged, rebuilt and remodelled.
At Mr. Alcock's death, in 1881, the works passed into the hands of Wilkinson & Hulme and then, in 1885 to Arthur J. Wilkinson.
Earthenware for the home markets was formerly made, but the operations were afterwards confined to white graniteware for the United States. In addition to this. Mr. Wilkinson introduced with considerable success gold lustres on the graniteware. The mark was the royal arms surmounted by the words ROYAL PATENT IRONSTONE and beneath, in three lines, ARTHUR J. WILKINSON. LATE R. ALCOCK, BURSLEM, ENGLAND.
In about 1896, Messrs. A. J. Wilkinson took the Royal Staffordshire Pottery, Burslem ...

I have had this meat platter for at least 40 years. My children see it every holiday meal we have.
It is very heavy and will easily hold a large turkey or whatever we decide to serve.

I am hooking up with Coloradolady for Vintage Thingie Thursday.
Go here and check out some more beautiful and vintage thingies.

Day 4 of Thanksgiving expressions.

I am thankful for our yardman. He is honest, dependable and works very fast.
His respect is the first thing you notice when you speak to him.
Our landscape is so neat and clean and expresses our appreciation and gratefulness for our home.
