Crocheted napkin rings.

Still thinking about all our armed service men, especially the ones still fighting.

Took a look at my stash of yarn the other day and decided I needed to do something to use up my odds and ends.

This is a variation on a craft I saw on Mod Podge Rocks, one of my favorite blogs.

Napkin rings.

You will need to know how to crochet.

Chain 21, sc in 2nd chain from hook all the way across,ch1, turn and

Continue until you have nine rows, this will end up 2 1/2 inches wide and about 6 " long.

 

2 1/2 " piece of toilet paper roll or paper towel role.

 Your piece will be about 6 "

Coat the back side of the piece with a generous amount of Mod Podge.

Roll onto toilet paper roll. Make at least 4 for a set or more if you like.

Make them matching or odds and ends colors to use up left over yarn.

I used Peaches and Cream color Psychedelic.

MP suggests you buy Scrabble Tiles for the last initial of  a family name or first name if you know the family well. Glue them on the front with glue gun.

Another baby blanket to work on

Hope everyone enjoyed all the nice weather, if it is nice where you are, and time with family.

As I mentioned on my blog a few weeks ago we just found out we are going to be great grandparents to not one baby but another granddaughter is expecting.

I have completed the Christening Blanket for the baby boy due in January.

Hard work with having to unwind the yarn and rewind into a ball.

 

HH and I do not want to have to do that again.

It took 8 skeins of this to do the blanket.

It is beautiful and we are not sorry we did it, but.

Since I have been crocheting for many years I decided to check all of my stash for a possible suitable supply of yarn for the second blanket.

Wa lah!!!!!!

found 4 1000 yard skeins of soft white thread.

My pattern is a shell pattern.

I have already bought the 1/4 inch blue and 1/4 pink satin ribbon to trim with.

I know what I will be doing for the next week or so.

Love being a grandmother.

Gonna love being a great grandmother just as much.

Grandson football prayer and his team lost their game last night.

A good game however.

47-33 a loose but a good game.

GS.  made one TD. and did not get hurt.

Yarn bombing rocks

I had been reading about yarn bombing for some time so decided to try it for a little gift.
I think it got it's start in Germany. It is called yarn graffiti .
I you look on google images you will find trees, buses, buildings and any thing imaginable wrapped in yarn.

It is crocheting over an object, mostly folks use rocks.

I just started crocheting and decreasing the rows and fitted it around my rock.

 

After covering the rock you pull the yard tight in order to stretch it over the rock and close it in the back.

Decided to make it into a little birthday token for one of our grands.

I placed a pretty gold button in the center and put two gold rings and a tiny copy of their wedding picture in this old locket and attached them with a gold cord.

One of my painting class friends owns a little newspaper with a set of lips for her logo.

She gave each of us a little Valentine with the lips logo on it.

I have attached mine to my purse to put my keys on when I leave my car.

Each week in her little newspaper she hides a pair of lips in one of the ads and if you can find them you can win a prize.

Doing one of my favorite things day

Doing my thing day.

My first day back to paint class yesterday had me coming away with this start.

I know this has a long way to go to look like this.

No one knows how many layers of paint it takes to have a finished project like this.
I just hope I can manage it.


Now

This is probably my most favorite thing to do.
At least it is the one I have the most confidence in doing.
But it is very important doing the later years to continue learning new things.

The brain at rest stays at rest.
The brain that is active stays active.
Or something like that.

You know the story.

No one in this family has had a baby for several years and even though one grand daughter is married, there are no plans for a baby for awhile.

Our youngest daughter's best friend is expecting a baby girl any day now.

They have been friends since they were elementary students.

Our daughter was in her wedding.

She was the organist in our daughter's wedding.
I love this beautiful friend of my daughter.
Her name is Carman.

So finally I have a new baby to make a blanket for.

It is 48 x 32 inches and every stitch was made with love.

The beautiful mother-to-be, Carman, at any minute now, may have the beautiful little

Madeline Cade in her arms.

Now to wash it and block it.

With the remaining yarn, called Chenille, I am making a little bunting hat for her.

This yarn is just like what chenille bedspreads are made from.

It was hard to work with at first but as I got used to it I love it.

It is so soft. 


Now back to my baby crocheting.
Better get to tweeking that painting too.
We will hopefully finish it next week.

because of the colors.

They are all lined and have two pockets.

These will go on the Journey Crafts website to 

help raise money for the SCN missions.

This one is named.
"The Blue and The Gray."

Have several basic ones made just waiting to see how these will sell and if they are liked.

So far there is only jewelry on that site.

Finally someone I know is going to have a baby.
Our daughter's best friend is expecting in April
Working on this afghan for the new baby.
WooHoo.
I love doing afghans.
I can just get lost in that work.
Calms my nerves.




Being able to stay active brings me much joy and sharing makes it even more joyful.

Feeling........Grateful the storm we had on Wednesday was no worse than it was but grieving for the folks in other states lost in that storm.

Thinking..........I do believe that humans have caused the changes in the weather patterns that we are experiencing around the world.
The pollution, chemical and matter that our society causes to rise to the stratosphere has an effect on the routes and formations of clouds and winds that make up our climates.

The only way I'd worry about the weather is if it snows on our side of the field and not theirs.

How I poke my muses or stirring the cauldron

Just read a blog were one of the artists admits she starts something and then sometimes switches to another project.

I found myself doing the same thing.

I get stuck on a project that is new to me or is more of a challenge than I expected and I get so exasperated that I just have to walk away.

Now I have one skill that I really am good at.

Crochet

So I always have something going on that I can pick up anytime.

I have been able to work every pattern that has ever come my way.

Now sometimes it takes a lot of uncrocheting  to get that project done.

But the confidence that I have when it comes to crocheting is unwavering.

So whenever I am stuck on something, I just leave it alone, maybe in the middle of a stroke, if painting and head back to my comfortable place crocheting.

I have made dresses, hats, gloves, scarfs, flipflops and anything that can be made.

I made an evening gown one year and wore it for a New Years Even gown.

Being made of yarn it got very hot and started to sag. 

Yes, I made it two piece and had to roll the skirt up at least 4 inches to get through the night.

Well I was the talk of the evening.

So that is how I stir my muses and get the juices flowing.

On my work table right now.

A personal card with my favorite flower, hydrangea.

Can't get the colors I want with the beads.

 Struggling with the  pocket in the lining.

 Paper beads.

I have a hard time getting the tips of the paper to stay down even after gluing them.

Any ideas out there?

 Working on ATC cards.

I just go from one to the other.

Is this consider hoarding?

No I guess it is clutter.

But I know I will finish these projects and as soon as one is done a new one will take its place.

Wish I could get those muses to even out the ideas instead of bombarding my brain and then just letting me down.
