Want to say congratulations to grandson Ben for his 2 tds at Friday night's 1st playoff game.
Playing his senior year in high school.
My mom had 3 brothers serve in WWII.
2 in the Army and 1 in the Navy.
Thank God all three of them made it home.
Polin in the South Pacific
Richard in Alaska
George in Brazil
our family heroes.
May they rest in peace.
I will never forget the days of my youth when my uncles and all the others were serving.
I remember the decals in the windows of the families serving at that time.
In my grandparents window.
In my grandparents window.

How proud you must be of Ben! Well done!
I like your tribute to those in the service. It acknowledges that families serve too - waiting in prayerful hope that their loved one will return, while agonizing over the ones that do not.
My dad was on Normandy Beach on D-Day and came home. My husband's uncle was lost on the carrier, Indianapolis.
What a beautiful tribute to all of our heroes. It is a special day and I miss so many of them -- especially my Dad. Thanks for sharing! Just stopping by from the GRAND Social, hope you get a chance to do the same.
I know you are enjoying Ben and his achievements during his senior year! I join with you in thanking your uncles and everyone who served. Your post is a lovely tribute to all.

My father, an Army clerk in WWII, told us the story that he served in Philadelphia most of the war. My older brother was born in August, 1944. Three months later, an Army officer saw him on the street, a year after he'd seen him before. He asked him, "What are you still doing here?" Now, you can be an Army clerk anywhere, but, the next week, he was shipped to a U.S. post in Brazil, where he served out the rest of the war, because, for morale reasons, the Army didn't want any able-bodied soldiers at home in the U.S., going home to their families every night, when all other soldiers were deployed.
