Sepia Saturday- Headless body

My archive prompt this week is a little different, notable not for what is there, but for what isn't. In this case, a head. The photograph comes from the Library of Congress collection on Flickr Commons and shows a 12 year old boy working as a theatre usher in Birmingham Alabama. But it is the man on the right of the photograph I want to focus on, and in particular, his missing head. Now we all have old photographs like this in our collection : missing heads, missing feet, missing arms - perfect examples of the photographer as a decapitator. You might, of course, have boxes full of perfect old photos - not a missing limb in sight - in which case feel free to follow whichever prompt you like (convicts, boys, striped pyjamas) or no prompt at all. Just post your old image along with your new thoughts on or around Saturday 22 September and link it to the list below.
Alan Barnett

I have been reading about Flickr Commons for a long time now and since I did not have an appropriate photo for today's post I decided to give Flickr Commons a look see.
Found lots of gory photos that I could not stand to look at so keep looking and found this amazing shot.

 A headless acrobat.

No mention of when it was taken or by whom.
Was it the skill of the photographer or just a lucky shot?
Whatever the case an amazing athlete and an amazing photographer just came together at the right time.

Go here to see other subjects without heads, maybe, or something just as interesting.

Off today for a little adventure at my brother's lake home.

Share the Joy Thursday

After taking a couple of weeks off from my new job I went back to a case on Wednesday. A kindly 90+ gentleman with parkinson's
The family had called and asked for me specifically.
Wow did that make me feel good.
Five hours to help him get up, fix his breakfast and do his laundry etc.

As there were only a few pieces I decided, since it was a beautiful day, to hang them outside on the clothesline.

Clotheslines are not allowed in my neighborhood.

As I hung the clothes in the fresh country air I felt such JOY to be out and able to help others and to soak up the fresh air.
They have a clothes dryer but I wanted to take the chance to save the family a little energy and to infuse the freshness of nature into the clothes.
His daughter was pleased with the nice smell of the towels.
Such small things I share my JOY with you.

Sepia Saturday- Interior of old business place in Springfield, Ky.

Sepia Saturday

And therefore all I will say about my archive picture this week is that you might possibly want to follow, plates, beans, tomato soup, eggs, coffee, biscuits, baking powder, salt, pepper, breakfast cereals, tinned fish, spam, or jars of jam as your theme this week. In fact you can take your pick from the shelves of the grocery section, of Bell and Macaulay's Store, Drouin, Victoria, Australia. The picture comes from the digital collection of the National Archives of Australia, made available via the excellent Flickr Commons initiative.
Alan B.

For my post I choose the interior of one of the early businesses in my hometown of Springfield, Kentucky from the 200 years historical book.

This is the Montgomery Restaurant c. 1923
after the end of WWll and the struggle over the restraints on growing and selling tobacco and prohibition were over.
Cars were beginning to appear on the streets of Springfield and some folks still counted on their horses for transportation and deliveries.
After the settling of the tobacco problems buyers came into town for the yearly auction of the tobacco and this restaurant thrived as the out of town buyers stayed at the local hotel just up the street.

 Sorry this is so lopsided.

Cannot tell much about what is on the shelves but pretty sure smokes are there but no alcohol.
I can see several of the men are smoking.
The absence of ladies makes me wonder.

Even after prohibition our little county voted to be what was called a "dry county" since alcohol could not be sold in public.
However, of course, there was no short supply of it around such as just down the street through the backdoor of the local taxi stand.

As a teenager, in the 50s, I remember working as a waitress in our local restaurant and the tobacco buyers were still coming.
A good time for our community.
They were great tippers.
The owner of the restaurant, at the time I worked there, was a married couple with no children who looked after us waitresses as they would their own children.
They made sure no ungentlemanly behavior went on inside these walls.

Friday shoot my town- Weather

What is your climate like?
Do you experience hurricanes, tornadoes or monsoons?
Or do you enjoy endless sunny days?
Show us!

In Central Kentucky
we have it all

Icy fingers from an Ice storm

Broken tree due to the wind

Chilly nights make a beautiful autumn

Churning atmosphere up above cause hard hitting hail down below.

Snow and wind make for nasty winters.

Spring rains and sun bring the early flowers.

Right on the edge of tornado alley.

We have it all and just go with the flow.

Share the JOY of Butterfly bushes and busy bees.

Been practicing shallow depth of field from last week's Shoot My Town theme.

Found myself without feelings of creativity and lack of purpose for some reason.

As always Share the Joy helps lift my spirits.
Maybe it is the world news, things like that can do it and that is when we need to put on our walking shoes and spend some time with God and nature.

A lot of  butterfly blooms fading away but even in their last stages they so reflect the beauty of God's gifts to us.

My developing skills in photography always make me feel JOY and for sure there is lots of JOY to photograph.

What beauty discovered under our damaged tree when it was removed.
Life is right on time.

Go here and share your JOY today.
