Doing my own thing- QMM Christmas workshop

Doing my own thing

QMM Christmas Workshop
Some of the things going on in the workshop

 Love this new yarn from
Annie's Hook and Needle Kit Club.
It is LionBrand

 Another different kind of material.
It is called ladder.
A little hard to work with until you get the hang of it.

Vintage keys wrapped with silver wire.
Just saw one on someone and had to give it a try.

The teen girls are going to love these.
All year long I have been receiving my kit of the month in the mail so I am  working on Christmas gifts.

May have more than I need but I will always have something around to work on.

Beats having to go to the store I hate to shop in to get supplies.

I am right on time.

Just a reminder, Doing my Thing Day does not mean I did all these things on one day.
Just that I decide which day I want to highlight them.

Looking around for some more fall colors and Read Em all Tuesday.

It has been raining for three days but before it started I was able to get out and about and get some  fall color shots.

There is nothing more beautiful than the riverbirch tree as it's bark begins to curl and fall to the ground.

The red of the inner trunk is very distinctive.

Nandina just waiting to be used for Christmas decorating.

The holly is abundant.

The leaves are gone but the tiny aristocrat pears are still plentiful.

The wind chimes in front of it's own shadow.

Each season has it's own particular beauty and joy attached to the time of the year.
He has everything just where it should be.

Now Read Em all Tuesday.

Tootsie over at Tootsie Time has a new meme.
I like the idea.

On Tuesday post a blog that you like and have been following and folks can find new things to enjoy and new bloggers to meet.
Pop over and read her ideas about this meme and you may want to join up.

Today I invite you to visit

Weedy Acres Home

This artist has the all kinds of beauty in her neck of the woods and she is a great photographer.

Ima Weed is also my painting teacher.

Here are her own words about her blog.

"I am semi-retired living on a small acreage in central Kentucky. Each day, week, month, year new weeds and 'critters' show up. I don't like chemicals and I don't like killing any thing so most of them are thriving here.
Many find their way onto the blog page."

Thanksgiving fun, Birthday fun. Family, Flowers and Food

Mosaic Monday with Mary

More fun than we know what to do with but we managed.
LOL
Would not trade it for any thing.

Amazing times with loved ones and friends.
It has been a few bumps in the road for us this year but that is the reality of life.
Everyone is always there for the other one.
Thanks for all our blessings.

The beginning of a new Liturgical year. 1St. Sunday in Advent

During the time of Advent in the Church we are preparing for the celebration of the birth of Jesus.

I pray that I may continue to worship the God of my choice and my country will continue to be free in all the ways that are important.
I always think of my mother on my birthday.
74 years ago today.
Love you and miss you Mom and Dad.

Thank you God for loving parents.

Sepia Saturday #102 Then and Now and a special birthday

Sepia Saturday

Alan's SS entry is full of visuals to stir up memories.

That is what SS is all about, no matter the age of the photo.

While shooting photos yesterday at Thanksgiving feast I remembered this old photo and how a 30 year old photo has a lot of memories and changes associated with it.

This was taken for our family photo for our church directory in 1981.

Our oldest son had just left Ky. for his new career with IBM in Kingston, N.Y.

Yours truly, way before she was QMM, Beth, Tom,
Rachel, Julia, John and Jennifer.

Yes, can't fool you, I did sepialize (?) this photo, but it was very pale and had lots of blemishes on the paper anyway.

Now speaking of memories.
This photo empathizes how blessed we are in being able to gather for special holidays.

We all know how blessed we are.

Go here for more Sepia Saturday.
You may want to join in.

Happy Birthday
No #1 son is 50 today.

High School graduation 1978

I have been able to see much of the other side of the world through this  son's eyes.
He has quite a travel portfolio.
He loves art and literature and travel.
He knows what I like and always has just the right photos to bring back to relate his experiences with me.
He and his best friend traveled inside Russia back in the cold war days and were able to go places where most people were not allowed to go.

We love you Thomas Dwight.

A blessing and Friday Shoot Out-theme-yard and lawn tools

As is my usual routine, after filling my mug with hot steaming coffee, I stepped out on my deck to feel the essence of the day.
It was 7:30, the day after Thanksgiving Day.

As is it's usual pattern, frost carpeted the parameter of our property but, near the house where the trees are more dense,  the grass was vibrant in the morning sun.

"Good morning, QMM," a strong male voice said in the stillness.

I looked up expecting to see some one come around the hedges to the left, perhaps our grandson with the deep booming voice.

"Good morning."
Said the voice again.
"Hello," I said. "Where are you?"

"I am where I always am, all around you. I have a gift this morning for you."
"Oh  I love to get gifts." I said

"Because of the love and fellowship in My name at your Thanksgiving celebration yesterday with your family, I have a gift for you. The sharing with others less fortunate than you, that your family did, was music to my heart."
The voice said.
"That is our regular routine on Thanksgiving. The homeless at our daughter's workplace needed several things.  She is Assistant Director of Programs at VOA family shelter in the city," I said as I looked all around for someone to attribute those words to. But saw no one.

"Look to the East," the strong voice said.

Before I even looked I knew who the voice belonged to.

I had been on the deck long enough to begin to feel the warmth from the gift permeating my cold body.

"Thank you dear God," I said, as I settled in the deck chair to say my morning prayers.
Giving thanks is not just for Thanksgiving day, as we all know, but remembering each day to stop and give thanks is not easy to do.
I go back to my everyday routine and have to be reminded each day of all the grand things in life.
The Son and the sun are two of the very best gifts in life.
Thanks be to Go.

Friday Shoot Out
Theme
Yard and lawn tools.
These are all modern tools and they mean WORK to HH.
This is the one I use the most.

This is where HH likes to see the tools.

Now here are some vintage ones I found at our niece's house.
These are just for looking and admiring.

Old tiller

Old horse drawn rake.

Manure spreader

Right in the center is a sickle for close work.

Quite a collection of old tools and lots of work to restore them all to their original look.

Looking at Ben looking at me.

Beautiful grand Nikki has started her own business in Henna art.
She stays busy as her generation is into body decorations, especially for weddings.
This is not permanent body art and very popular around here.

The hand she is working on is gd Abby.
Abby's dad would allow this, but not permanent tattoos.
