Sepia Saturday #99-Theme-Musical, music

Sepia Saturday
and
Gratitude challenge day #5

Alan has a photo of a band up this week and there are several items in this photo that could be used as the theme but I choose music.

Now this photo is not 100 years old but it is 56 years old.

St. Catharine Academy
Orchestra
1954-55

Yours truly is the 4th from the left in the 1st violin section.

I studied the violin the four years I was in this school.

I continued to take piano lessons after high school and had not played the violin for years.
In 1990 A Suzuki program came to our town and I joined and took up the violin again.
I was one of only two adults in the program.
Some of the students were are young as 6 years old.
There tiny little violins were so cute.
I found it a little intimidating play with those little tots.

Wow some of them where amazing.

They were required to have a parent or adult take the lessons with them so as to help them practice at home.
I did not have a partner, I taped the lessons and that helped me.
The only thing I remembered about playing the violin,
after a 30 year hiatus, was how to hold the violin, the bow and how to stand.
Of course I could read music but keeping that perfect stance and position to play was hard as could be.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing the violin again and did so with one of our grands accompanying me on the piano.
We would play at Christmas and holiday times.

About 3 years ago I left my violin in my car in the heat and it melted the glue holding my violin together, so I am violinless again.
Probably won't buy another now.
My shoulders could not stand the strain these days.

I am grateful for my experience with music and surely enjoy the very best of all kinds of music daily.

Share the Joy and Tea Talk Thursday

Having family get togethers and seeing the young and old enjoying life at it's best.

HH's oldest brother 83, joining in the music making.
This man is amazing.
He still works 2 days a week as a salesman for a huge tire chain in the city.
Attends Churchill Downs racing everyday that the horses are running.

He just radiates joy and it is contagious.

The youngest members of the family.
HH's niece and family.
Feeling the warmth and joy.

Having.............MAXWELL HOUSE COFFEE

In...........my regular coffee cup.

Feeling.............grateful, very snug and cozy in my nice warm home with my HH especially since the rain and cooler weather was come to us in the form of fall.

Thinking about..........all of those folks out there who do not have a warm and cozy place to be in this world. Doing what I can to help in our small way. Involved in "Coat-a-kid" in our community.

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither
do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand,
and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine
before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
 (Matthew 5:14-16 NIV)

A Closer Look

Where are you, my heart?
Where are you, my soul?
I cannot find you any more.
I looked at him and I looked at her.
No, that's not what I want to see.

I searched down deep and poked around.
It hurt so much I turned back.
Halfway back I looked at nee.
No, not Mrs. or Miss could I see.

I only see what I had tried to be.
As I backed out of the hole I dug,
I heard myself say
"Here I am!"
"Look at me!"

"Here I am?"
Where did that spring from, this searching day?
I looked asky and I looked aground.
Nowhere could I be found.

I turned and saw a face aglow,
Absent of all worry and woe.
Because I looked just when I did,
Straight ahead.
Now I am found.

Tea Talk with Ruth and What in the world came over me to be singing Karaoke

I am joining my wonderful family reunion with Ruth's Tea Talk.

This morning I am having my first cup of coffee in my regular pottery cup. Yes it is hot drink time here. The end of one season and the beginning of another.

Feeling so blessed and secure in my faith even though our country and world seems to be in chaos.
We will move ahead with the hand of God leading us.
Thinking about the beauty of the changing seasons and how God is always present in our every breathing moment.

The man who views the world at fifty the same as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.  ~Muhammad Ali

Guest of honor
our 86 year old aunt.
This is her first time to be present.
She is the beautiful white haired lady in the middle next to this white haired lady.

On Saturday we had our annual family fish fry at my brother and SIL's home on the lake.

Games, Karaoke, great food and loved ones.

When I head this music on the karaoke I just had to express my feelings brought on my all the remembrances of 9/11 and the knowledge how grateful we should feel for our loved ones and our way of life.
Our sympathies and empathy was so evident all over this country and the world that I could not hold it any any longer.
Laugh with us.

Well I was singing "I Just Called to Say I Love You"
but was unable to upload the video.
I guess that tells me something, probably better not to do that.

Host Joe and Hostess Linda start the day off with a prayer.

Loading the water balloon cannon.

 Electric slide in the street.
There is a name for this street but luckily there are only two homes on this street and it is a dead end leading directly to the river.
The neighbors always join in for the fun.
Living on a cul-de-sac has it's advantages.

 Jello Shots?
First time I had ever heard of them.
Wow how naive I am.

 In University of Kentucky land,
In case you could not guess.

Retirement on the lake.

A glorious sunny day, not too hot.

All but three of our wonderful grandchildren were there.

A day to give thanks for sure.

Go here to visit with Ruth and other friends.

Sketchbook Challenge-Highly prized.

Just finished reading a few posts with early sketches and as they say it may not be perfect, but it was fun.

Did this New Year's day.

I dug out an old sketchbook that I had dabbled some watercolors on and added some mixed media, since I would like to get better at that style.

 Watercolors
Music
and
Angels
since we have twin daughter angel babies in heaven.
Things I highly prize.
