Soulful Friday.-My heart is broken.

Soulful Friday gives us bloggers an opportunity to write about something that has touched our soul this week.

When I saw that "Spotlight"
had won the Oscar for this year, I had no idea what it was about.

Then I saw comments around that gave me an insight into the subject material.

How well I remember when that happened and the church was finally held accountable for the cover up.

The investigation in the 80's into the alleged abuse of young boys by Catholic priest.

I was born into a Catholic family and my Catholicism
was the center of my life.

Taught in private schools from 1st to 12th, I was saturated with it.
Loved it.
Never questioned it.

Lead my life based on the 10 Commandments and the 7 laws of the church.

Gave birth to 8 children.
and so on.
Involved in every aspect of the church that women were allowed to be.
One of the first lecturers, minister of the Eucharistic, involved with anything that my children were involved in in private Catholic schools.
Worked as an RN while my husband and I raised our 6 living children.

When I retired at 70 I was worn out.
There was nothing left but my faith in
Jesus Christ.
What I have learned about the church during the last 8 years makes me cry.

Enough said.

I pray every day for the strength to forgive the hierarchy after all it is made up of men only, human beings, not gods like they put on for years.

The church has lost my trust.
When it hit here in my Archdiocese I knew many of the
priests very well.

Now I know the truth.
I am right with God.

seeing this movie was the last straw
I had been searching for answers for many years.

I have broken with the church and it has nothing to do with faith in God.
Please pray for our church and our country.

It's wonderful that faith in The Lord has never had anything to do with any church. We ourselves are the church...His bride...not any particular denomination. I know that this was very distressing for you and so many. May God provide the healing.

Peggy, I had the same upbringing as you.
My parents were pillars of our local church - I dread to think how they would have coped with all that's happened.
I'm sure the majority of religious are of good character and they have been let down by the minority - things will never be the same.
The bad thing was the cover up and protection and I often ask myself what would Our Lord have done.
I still have my faith although I don't go to church. It's a sad world we live in now - I'm 74 and I wonder where all this will end up.
I'm sure the church will survive and as a whole society will change. At the moment it's a moral-less society.
Let us pray together for change.
