Grand Social-a scam

A grand father's day all around for the dads in the family.

Had an experience Friday that was very unnerving to me.
Received a call that I could hardly hear but some one said
"Grandma this is your oldest grandson."
I answered with a question. A question that mentioned his name.
Very strange from the start as I had not spoken to this adult grandson in several years.
To make a long story short, it was a scam.
He said he was in Nevada and needed a certain amount of money to get out of jail.
He had been in an accident and arrested for
DUI.
He asked me to promise not to tell his dad.
As we talked I realized I really thought it was him.
I decided I needed to ask him something to verify it was our grandson.
I asked for his dad's birthday.
He hung up.

I try to keep up with things and know of certain scams aimed at old folks, but had not heard of this.
My daughter told me to go to
www.snopes.com and read up.

Another daughter told me her mother-in-law had gotten the same type of call a few months ago.
Thank goodness I did not fall for that.
It is very unnerving to wonder how they got my phone number and even how they knew we had a grandson.
A sad state of affairs that we are at the mercy of so many people out there with no respect.
A sad affair to feel one must constantly be on the lookout for such scams.

"But gramma I need your help"

Go here for more grand socializing.

This one has been on our local news lately so it must be a new push. I agree with you, it is a sad state of affairs when people have to be on constant alert, but is true. We all must be wary.

Yup, these type of scams happen all the time! They tug on your heart.
Smart of you to go with your gut and ask questions.

Unfortunately there have always been scams, and the older we get the more there seem to be. Here from the Grand Social and I hope you get to speak to your REAL grandson soon- on good terms and happy news. BB2U

That is just awful. That someone can actually talk to you on the phone and tell such lies. I cannot believe that this is how people spend their days. Scamming people constantly. Serious brain disorder if you ask me. How can anyone think that is okay and live their lives that way? My husband was scammed online months ago. He almost lost a huge sum of money when he was asked by a company that he always does business with to wire money to a bank elsewhere in the world. He actually did it, but then realized it was a scam after a couple of hours, and thankfully was able to stop the transaction in time. Someone had taken over the email account of his business contact. I don't understand how people can do such things. How do they sleep at night knowing they are cheats and scammers? Very sad indeed. Glad you figured it out. Karma always wins in the end. Best wishes, Tammy

I have heard about this kind of scam but never knew anyone who it really happened to. I am so glad you didn't fall for it. You were really thinking when you asked about his Dad's birthday!

Wow- these scammers sure are getting wily. I can see how people get taken in by the horrible people. I'm glad you were a quick thinker!
