Sharing and talking

Spread the Joy
and
Celebrate Friendship

The sun is shining today but
just a couple of days ago
The snow started at 3:30

Our deck at 6:30.
It was beautiful.

The next day.
Icicles dripping from the eaves sounded like rain.
I try to take joy in the snow and I do love it.
But I prefer the Joy that comes from seeing the sunshine.

Tea Talk with Ruth

Having.....hot chocolate
In...........My new Doc Martin mug
Feeling........lazy since it is cold outside and snow is on the way again.
Thinking.............sometimes I feel selfish enjoying my free time and doing mostly just what I want to do.
I know where that comes from.
I was taught by my religious upbringing that a life without doing for others is useless.
Whoa, you say.
I cannot subscribe to that now at my advancing age. I must realize a happy medium is the ideal.
We have raised 6 children and we have both worked up to age 70.
I continue to learn.
Enjoy art, reading and a number of other things.
I am worn out by doing, doing, doing outside my home.
I want to be home.
Stay home.
But, I have one project that I give of my time and talent for others.
That will have to do.

"Candor and generosity, unless tempered by due moderation, leads to ruin."

This week I have been helping to plan the prayer services for our first retreat of the year for the
Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Associate, of which I am a member.

We have a renowned speaker for our  facilitator and the subject

Our Call to Holiness

I had not been able to attend any of last year's retreats due to health problems I have been dealing with.
It is with joy that I am helping to plan and to be part of this retreat.

These two memes today both reflect my feelings of cutting back on outside activities I choose to be involved in.
It is a good thing to understand one's limitations no matter how hard it may be to come to them.

Lots to take in from this post, Peggy. First of all - sorry for sending the snow down your way! I like to share, but not that white stuff, unless it hangs around only long enough to be admired. Then you thoughts on being home - you've earned it! I find that as I get closer to retirement I am longing to be home, especially now that my husband is home all the time. Then the thought of the retreat - what joy! I love to go on a retreat every few years and was on silent retreat in October - just the perfect experience when I needed it most.
Wishing you a good day as we head towards the end of the week.

I enjoy snow - in moderation - but love sunshine much more!

I understand your thoughts so well. I do so love to be home myself, and would love to be home more often.

You are so right, we do need to know our own limitations. God bless you!

There are so many beautiful pictuires to be taken here lately, but I am too miserable to be bothered to take them. Just this morning sun was lighting up the ice on the trees from the recent freezing rain.

Hi, Peggy,

Your post resonates with me, and I still have young men at home! I long for a day of just being home, maybe gardening, reading a book, or blogging even. Yes, I love to serve others and do things to bless others, but sometimes I need a day where I'm just HOME. I'm comforted by the fact that He is my shelter and shield and hiding place!

Have a beautiful day!

Christine

Your deck looks so pretty in its fresh, white and fluffly blanket.

Snow over here too. Yes, it is nice to just do for yourself once in a while. I find when I am becoming impatient with the children or my husband, if I take some time to be quiet and draw or listen to soft music with a pretty magazine I am more able to serve them.

Hope you have a wonderful day. Sounds like you have quite a legacy. Thanks for sharing tea.

I have my blog up now (The Artist in NEBZ renamed "No longer available"), only to be able to comment on others blogs. Don't feel like I have the time to devote to it right now, as I'm working on some other goals this year. Thank you for sharing your blog with me, however. Enjoyed reading your post. And I feel like your writing and your photos are helping and inspiring people on this blog. Love your glamore photo. How beautiful! Don't feel guilty. You haven't stopped working, you're just working differently. I stopped working at 57 so that I would have time to devote to helping others more. I don't feel a bit guilty. So happy that I'm able to do that. Following Jesus is all that is required, and the rest will follow.

Oh how we'd love some of that snow!
I am glad you are now in a state in life where you can "be" more than "do" and enjoy time doing things you like to do.

O, yes, Peggy girl, you deserve to stay home, doing as you please, enjoying all the little things, along with the big ones.
I love being home so much. I stayed home when my kids were growing up, going back to work when daughter was a senior. This was to help son in college and daughter in nursing school.
Now, Mr. Sweet and I do what we want, when we want. Some days, especially cold cold days, we light a fire, settle in with hot coffee or hot chocolate, books (his, a Kindle) and read all day...or watch movies....or work on projects. We are so enjoying the winter season of our blessed and long lives.
Our closest friends are in the same boat and live only a few blocks away. We often get together and make a nice dinner, then play cards. All our children and g'kids live in the same town so we are all together often. Just a blessed and beautiful life...and I LOVE IT. !!:))
XOXO bj

I enjoyed reading your post, Peggy. I see much wisdom in it.Life in moderation...I always know it's a wise thing to do but still sometimes it's easier to go extreme than to maintain the balance. God bless you for your service to others. He is your reward.

Thank you for sharing your joy at Tea Talk. It's an honor to share tea time with you.

Blessings!

P.S. Loved your glamorous profile picture!
