Stepping into unexplored territory-for me.
I spoke about beginning oil painting classes a couple of weeks ago and how uncomfortable I was with getting that first touch of paint on the canvas.
Well I started and left my canvas at the studio so I would not be tempted to mess it up.
I was working from a picture that had directions and colors to use in the painting.
The green in the center are the beginnings of a tree and a little path up to the tree.
I could not stand the waiting, so I tried to do the painting again from memory since I had the paint that wasn't used to go by.
Also I had a picture of my beginning painting.
She had suggested we get disposable palettes so if there is paint not used you can just cover it with another page and take it home and continue to use it up.
Here is what I did today.
Then I played with it on Picnik and it has helped me to play around with how I might finish my painting.
The things one can do with Picnik are unending.
It is just fun to sit and play with it.
You know what they say about old age.

Very good start. I don't know much about oil paints but I always admire them! :-)
Yes, as long as we have something to learn, new to experience it is good! I have dabbled in painting for years, acrylics & using the Donna Dewberry 1 stroke technique. I took an oil painting class last year in IL at a motor home rally. Thought I did well, but the instructor kept "fixing" my scene which I did not appreciate.
Learning, expressing yourself, having fun with the paint - go for it!
It's great to see your work and your experiments as they progress.
I am so excited for you. I tell my kids all the time, if they keep an open mind, they will continue to learn the rest of their lives. Sister Rita showed my daughter and I the painting room when we visited Nazareth. It is so open and makes you feel you need to accomplish something. Great going gal.
You are so creative and adventuresome! I admire that you are taking painting classes - wish I could too, although I'm sure anything I painted would look like a child's finger-painting. Keep us posted on your progress.
Well Sweetbrier I actually did paint the very first complete first layer of paint with my fingers. I just could not get that brush to do what I wanted so my teacher said just use your fingers, so I did. I came home and experimented with mixing colors with my fingers. It turned out just the way I wanted it. I will probably oil paint like that many times.
