Talking with the grands about careers. Nothing better.

Nothing makes grandparents feel better than spending time with their grands one on one.

Grandson has completed 2 years of college in communication.

He and his friends are considering going into the army.

Our son, and all of us, secretly hope he doesn't but no one wants to discourage him. He and his papaw are very close.

GS asks

"What do you think Papaw?"

Papaw did not pass for the army due to a heart problem and can not give any advise based on experience.

Papaw always encourages the grands to look at all alternatives.

GS seems to have a calling for criminal forensics.

He is waiting for clearance on a football shoulder injury to go into training.

Trusting in God to help him decide.
 

GD sitting across from me is a CNA wanting to persue a career into nursing. 
That is all she ever talks about to me. She started nursing school and found it very hard.
Recently I have read a BSN is the hardest career to reach in college these days.
I told her to keep on trying. 

True the college and training is a lot harder than the actual work.

I can remember our professors and Lab RNs telling us this is the way your learn to do it right. It may not end up being the actual way you do it.
Must be very flexible and autonomous to be a nurse.

Grand Social- Mamaw crowing up a storm.

Even though it is mid January family upper class students are making plans and completing some extraordinary projects and achievements.

This beautiful granddaughter, senior in a local high school, has been accepted to U of Ky. School of Architecture.
Her application drawings were amazing.

This good looking grandson, a Sophomore at one of our Ky. Universities, will spend 2 weeks in Peru, for credit, near the end of the school year. He has already spent some time in Europe studying.
Gosh I wish I could go along with him.

The two beautiful sisters are well on their way in college goals.
The one of the left is a Sophomore at one of the state's beautiful private colleges, making straight As toward a
degree in Physical Therapy.

The one on the right is a Junior at one of the finest private schools in Ky. taking leadership roles in lots of clubs and groups.



This 25 year old is a professional skateboarder, having finished college work in film school and loving his job as trainer and vidiomaker for his beloved skateboarding.

Currently, sad to say, he is recovering from a traumatic accident, not related to skateboarding.
His right calf was damaged in a truck accident accounting for 2 weeks in the hospital and 6 surgeries, including a skin graft.
He is doing great.

 Our older grand children are into good jobs or being new mothers and loving it.

This handsome grandson has just about completed his 1st two years at our Community College and will enter a university this fall and complete his degree in which he is considering.
I am not sure what that is.


Well with 11 grands that is a lot of crowing to be done.
Of course that is what this meme is all about.

Books

Who says books have to be published, professionally bound, etc., to be enjoyed?

In 2009, the first year I was completely retired, I decided to write a book for each grandchild for Christmas.

I started about June of that year.

Each book had the child's first name in the title and throughout the book.

I had written in a style and using only first names called them a series so if possibily, I would have them published later, they would come out as

The Papaw and Mamaw Stories.
I even illustrated them.

Had Kinko's bind them with spirals.

You would have thought they had discovered gold.
There was laughing and reading out loud and the
parents were excited as the children.

It was a total surprise for them all.
HH and I spent the 1/2 year talking about and coming up with memories to make the stories pertinent to each child.  
And they were all very whimsical.
Birds, genies, fish, horses, dreams all fun things to write about.

We did that for two years and I have never seen children and parents so excited.
Each child has them tied together with ribbon and on display in their room.
They were all disappointed the third year, no book.

As they got older I did not intimately know as much about them as when they were younger and found myself unable to write for such a diverse age group.

I have been gathering ideas, as one is married and so many things have changed whimsical is hard to find for adults.
I could never have done that unless I had been a big reader.
 
One year I may just surprise them all again.

   I always dress up at Halloween and give out candy just inside my garage door.

Wendy said she would like to take credit for making the cake but it was done by a professional.

Proud dad and mom enjoying all the preparations.

Chef Daddy did pulled pork and brisket and it was melt in your mouth.

These are all our grands.

It brings tears to my eyes to realize how fast they have grown.

They all were in 7th heaven to be ripping and playing touch football again like in their little kid days.

Papaw and QMM with our Angel Bangel, her nickname.

Next year we will have 2 high school graduations and 1 for the next three years in a row.

That will make all of our grands out of hs and then the college grads will start.

They make life grand for sure.

 Honeymoon and Hopper know what is going on and they are enjoying the festivities.

Sepia Saturday- theme-games

While Alan is out gaming around the world we are visiting our SS pals and entering the world of games.
My photos are not old this week but it was fun to retrieve and post about them.

No game is more fun than with grands.



When our grands were small they would be with us a lot.

They would stay with us when their parents were to be out of town or just for the fun of it.

We had a lot of fun with all of them.

These two probably spent more time with us after we were retired so we had more time to actually play with them.

These are some of our younger grands.

Our oldest daughter married young and her three daughters are much older and not into playing games with Papaw and QMM at this time.

This young lady is ready to enter collage to be a 
Registered Nurse.

HH loved to play checkers.
He felt he had a responsibility to teach them to play.
He would never let them win on purpose.
Would make me angry but he said they would never learn if he did that.
He was right. 

The young lady will soon enter college to be a veterinarian.

She would often play vet for her brother who liked to pretend he was a monkey.

This silly nilly will soon enter college to be an engineer so he can follow his father into the family business.


Now HH and I were playing Uno with these two but I promise you we were not holding our cards with our feet. LOL

These two loved to play explorer.
Here they are in their tent with their lunch and notice the eye glass at the foot of the one going to study engineering.

The one on the right is planning to study in the field of medical forensics.
She did an internship in the U of L Cancer Research Center this past summer.
