My entry came from a photo taken in
1940, when I was 3 years old.
It was in my copy of Washington County
Kentucky Bicentennial History
1792-1992
and includes many of my family and neighbors.
This photo was taken Jan 13 1940 of the Springfield
National Guard in formation on Main St. on the
day of departure for Camp Hulen, Tx.
The arrow indicates Lt. Joseph Polin my mom's first cousin.
I knew him well when I was older.
I remember the buildings along Main Street as we did not live far from there.
Of course they are all gone now and there is an empty lot along that area used for parking at the nearby funeral home.
Lt. Polin came home from the war to manage the Hale and Polin Funeral Home which had been run by his father and brothers for many years.
