One of the fun crafts I am involved in consists of making paper beads and designing them in to
items that are sold at the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Kentucky in my home town.
I work in the Visitor's Center one day a week and at home make the jewelry.
The paper beads are then strung on wire and sprayed with a clear sealer to keep them from coming loose.
Once they are dry they are shiny and look like metal or glass.
The beads are made from the pages of The Journey a magazine the sisters publish and send out 3 times a year.
The paper must be of a good quality, strong and not flimsy as in most magazines.
I arrange the items on a palette in the designs I want to create and then match paper beads with plastic, glass or other types of beads that I find in consignment shops or yard sales.
When completed they are called
Journey Crafts.
I make key fobs for the men.
Once a year a large, beautiful fund raising luncheon is held in the city.
The luncheon is called
Join the Journey.
Each guest is give a bracelet as a favor at their seat.
Last year I made 400 bracelets and 100 key fobs.
I have already started on my goal for this year's luncheon.

The luncheon is in October.

AMAZING! Your work is so beautiful. And goodness, so many. God bless your hands. In the past, ladies here at the shelter have been taught how to make these paper beads. They then make jewelry and sell it so that they can have some pocket money when they go home. I've bought some necklaces in the past. Would love to learn how to do it. Wish I could come visit you for a personal tutorial. :)
Five hundred items?! That is amazing to me. How long does it take to make one bead? How long to finish making a bracelet from start to finish? I think that you are incredible and that this is a labor of love.
Beautiful! I've never seen these before. I love the way the word of the Lord is discretely carried near the heart of the person wearing the beads!
