The Culture affect.

Soulful Friday.
Something that touched me this week.
I have been putting off watching
The Sopranos for sometime.
The  only thing I knew about it was that it was about organized crime.
But I decided to watch the first episode and now I am hooked.

It is really is typical of shows that I do not think I like to watch.
Yet I admit I get involved with the characters and that is my interest.

I was totally surprised to find out how disturbed
Tony Soprano is and yet he continues to be faithful to the code that those Mafia families lived by.

I had no idea how mental illness plays such a big part in this drama.

Made me think about how our  lives are shaped by what kind of family and culture we are born into.
I don't like the language and violence in it but I am too old to find myself modeling my life after such folks.

But a steady diet of these kind of shows and movies are having an effect on our younger generations.
Their hearts can be hardened against these types of  violence, coupled with the affects of drugs and alcohol, the stresses of growing up are too much for some adolescents.
Like many things in life once you are involved in a shady life style, sometimes it is too hard to get out.
I worked for some time as a Psych Nurse and mental illness is one of my biggest passions.
I have always had empathy for those which such backgrounds and have no idea what the answers are.
Support systems and treatment do work if the
individual has those things and/or will accept them.

I have hope for that modality and pray daily for relief for those who suffer.

Not trying to be preachy or judgmental  but the newer TV offerings are so bad I do not watch TV anymore and now I am running out of good wholesome things to watch on my Kindle.

Wishing all my blogging friends a great weekend.

Peggy--- I don't like to watch violent or trashy stuff on tv either... There is a whole world of amazing things to watch on your kindle. Do you belong to Netflix or Amazon Prine? If so-- let me know which one and I'll pass on some of my favorite shows...

I, too, find that newer programs are not as family friendly, or even adult friendly in some cases! Oh, for the Good Ole Days! Have a grand weekend and thank you for your always welcome visit!

Hi Peggy, a very thought provoking post. I find myself rarely watching TV any more. I do have Netflix and I can find some nice movies on there to watch, and some TV serials too. Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend :)
