FSO- How does your town start the day.

Mar 7: Start of the Day - What does the new day brings in your town or city? How does it start? From personal stories to the sights you see every morning, show us the morning in your town. (Mersad)

Well since I am retired I am not in my town at starting time.
I know the sun rises as it is the same one that rises at my house.

A steaming cup of coffee is a must for many, many people whether they have it at home of wait in a long line at one of the local drive-thrus.

There are two Catholic Churches in the city limits.
The church bells ring at 6 AM, 12 Noon and 6 PM.
Older Catholics still say
"The Angelus"
when those bells ring.

The Angelus

The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary:
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of
our death. Amen.
Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.
Hail Mary . . .
And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary . . .

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

When I was a young girl I lived near our church and these prayers were so much a part of my daily life. The bells reminded one to say the prayers.
I have not been in ear shot of any bells for many years, but if I happen to be in an area where I hear those bells, I still say those prayers.

Mass is said each day at both of these churches.

Many folks in our town start their day with attendance at Mass.

This is a sight seen all year long in our town as after the school year is over, there is constantly some type of school activities going on. Our school buses are rented by the city, in the summer to trolley folks to the outdoor theater and/or to camps.
If you work in this town you will learn the routes to avoid so as not to be delayed by these bus schedules.

If a business is starting the day, it is a sure thing someone must unlock the front door.

May folks start the day with their favorite local newspaper.
In our town There are many restaurants where folks start their day.
Most retirees in our town choose Hardees.
They have a great breakfast and welcome the retired groups.

Back when I did go to work every day this scene greeted me many mornings as I passed through a low lying area into town.

I now volunteer at the Visitor's Center on the Nazareth Campus one day a week and I begin my day by turning on the video that is shown when visitors stop in.

This is how I start my day these days.

It's so fascinating to see the differences in how we start our mornings. I like your post about the bells and the prayers. Interesting!

Interesting post. It is so interesting that I used to recite the Hail Mary all the time as a child and had absolutely no concept of what it meant!

A wonderful post, Peggy. You really got the message across that people start their days in many different ways. I love the image of the senior pair of hands checking out the daily comic strip, I hope he had a good chuckle.

I love the smell of freshly made coffee in the mornings, but I don't drink them. I rather have the Milo, the malt drink.

You have captured the morning well. We all have our routines... I rarely go out early now either as I'm not working, I try to avoid the rush hours when I can.

I think it is wonderful of you to volunteer at the Visitor Center!

A wonderful start of the day collection. So many things to see and do, we tend to forget how many little moments make up our days!

A beautiful descriptive post on the start of your day. I love hearing church bells, but I never knew they were a reminder to say certain prayers, but of course they must be for that: a call to prayer.
