My archive prompt this week is a little different, notable not for what is there, but for what isn't. In this case, a head. The photograph
comes from the Library of Congress collection on Flickr Commons and
shows a 12 year old boy working as a theatre usher in Birmingham
Alabama. But it is the man on the right of the photograph I want to
focus on, and in particular, his missing head. Now we all have old
photographs like this in our collection : missing heads, missing feet,
missing arms - perfect examples of the photographer as a decapitator.
You might, of course, have boxes full of perfect old photos - not a
missing limb in sight - in which case feel free to follow whichever
prompt you like (convicts, boys, striped pyjamas) or no prompt at all.
Just post your old image along with your new thoughts on or around
Saturday 22 September and link it to the list below.

I have been reading about Flickr Commons for a long time now and since I did not have an appropriate photo for today's post I decided to give Flickr Commons a look see.
Found lots of gory photos that I could not stand to look at so keep looking and found this amazing shot.
A headless acrobat.
No mention of when it was taken or by whom.
Was it the skill of the photographer or just a lucky shot?
Whatever the case an amazing athlete and an amazing photographer just came together at the right time.
Go here to see other subjects without heads, maybe, or something just as interesting.
Off today for a little adventure at my brother's lake home.

Oh my goodness - what an amazing photo! Talk about being at the right place at the right time for the photographer.
Wow -- that is some photo! Kinda creepy but yeah, that is one flexible athlete, for sure.
That is an incredible shot! The head is lost as well as a leg and all the limbs look out of proportion. Feet don't even look like feet.
It looks unreal, unnatural. But judging by the angle the photographer positioned himself, I suspect he knew what to expect. Still, a great shot!
I've always wanted to see that photo from a side angle. It is intriguing. I lop heads purposefully, but not as completely as that man. Does make one wonder who he was and what he looked like. Have fun at the lake!
Wow. I'm certainly not going to try that at home.
To have a foot protruding where the head shoul be makes it an even more amazing shot. Great photo.
It really is an amazing photograph - I am still trying to puzzle it out. Glad you found Flickr Commons.
This amused me a lot but while you may think this was a unique picture, I found many more like this:

That is incredibly bizarre.
Put your best food forward?
Think on your feet?
I could go on.
That's a quite spooky photo Peggy. I'd never have thought of accidental decapitations caused by the flexibility of the athlete!
I can't figure out where the head could be.
I'm with Wendy on this one. This is just a tad creepy. But cool and amazing at the same time!
I guess that's what the judges mean when they say "Wow, she's so flexible" I'll give her a perfect 10.
