For the first time in my, almost, 75 years I have found myself an activist.
Yesterday Aug 7 2012, I gathered on a downtown street corner, right next to the Catholic cathedral to Stand with the Sisters.
We were joined with many from the community that have been taught, nursed and friends of the sisters, regardless of church denomination.
We protest nothing.
We stand for women's right to carry out a call that
comes straight from God.
As many folks know the Vatican has waged a war against the women religious congregations of the United States to stop the ordination of women to the Roman Catholic Priesthood.
As an associate member of the Sister of Charity of Nazareth Kentucky I have been very close to the proceedings of this action for several years.
The LCWR
Leadership Conference of Women Religious began their meetings yesterday to prepare their response to the
Vatican's, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
The Vatican has laid down their mandates for the
the sisters to follow, or else.
Or else what?
Regardless of what you may know about this, how you feel, or even whether or not you care, this is one of the most monumental occasions in the history of the fight for women's rights.
I find JOY today in my journey with the sisters and my understanding of what this means to me, not as a Catholic but as a woman.
The Vatican has no right to excommunicate me for standing up for a women's right to be ordained as they would have to deny that I was born and called to live as a woman.
They might excommunicate me from the church but I will always be Catholic.
I was born Catholic.
I was born American, how do I not be American?

Wow! That's BIG. I applaud you for having the conviction of your beliefs -- that women have God-given talents that should be used to their fullest, regardless of their gender. It's the wrong-headed bias of a male dominated church, not the will of Mother-Father God, that women are subordinated. So you go, Sisters!

Standing with the Sisters of Providence and all sisters!!! Proud to be and Associate of the Sisters of Providence. Saint Mother Theodore Guerin had to deal with a kind of treatment when she first came to the United States on the Indiana Frontier..."The more things change, the more they stay the same..."
