Sepia Saturday-

Sepia Saturday

Alan's prompt for this week.
I choose animal since I had this vintage
postcard.

Lake Stanislaus of lyric fame.

 You sent your silvery warning
Black horizon storming, storming
Summer steam in the morning
Oh Stanislaus, don't hold your breath for me

You were a beautiful fable
Swept your dirt under the table, table
I'd trade your oak for a maple
Oh Stanislaus, don't hold your breath for me

Saw you, saw you 'neath my window
Saw your, saw your body flowing down
They said, said you would enchant me
But I know, I know where you're going now

Used to play along your shore
Swam above your sandy floor, floor
Beckon me unto your door
Oh Stanislaus, don't waste your time on me

You showed your glittering meadow
Beneath the hemlocks and the meadow's nettles
You tried to lure from the meadow
Oh Stanislaus, don't waste your gold on me

Saw you, saw you 'neath my window
Saw your, saw your body floating down
They said, said you were enchanting
But I know, I know where you're going now
I know where you're going now

You sent your silvery warning
Black horizon storming, storming
Summer steam in the morning
Oh Stanislaus, don't hold your breath for me
Oh Stanislaus, don't hold your breath for me.

I could not find a Stanislaus lake but a River Stanislaus in Cherry Lake Stanislaus National Forest California.
Then I finally found this video with the lyrics.
In the research  I found where it said many folks pronounce it STAN-is-lau and I notice this is the way the vocalist pronounces it here.
I like this recording.
Maybe someone out there is familiar with it.
Go here for Sepia Saturday

What a serene photo.

I thought the same. Vintage or not there’s something about swans swimming along that is very placid.

The problem with geese and swans is although they look serene as they glide along beneath the water their feet are moving quickly.

Such a beautiful photo and interesting poem. Thanks for starting off my Sunday with a cultural boost.

I'm wishing I had a bag of old bread and was sitting on shore throwing crumbs into the water. I could use some relaxation like that.

Like the photo you have of yourself at the top. Very nice.
