Sepia Saturday 105

Sepia Saturday 105 the Sat. before
Christmas.
Look at all the goodies.

Alan's theme "The Perfect Little Housewife" is more glamorous than my post but I am on theme this week.

This is my Mom in 1958 putting a coat of varnish on our living room floor.
As I have mentioned several times in my posting, she was a single mom working and raising three children by herself.
This was 2 years before my sister and I married.
I was working, having graduated in '56, my sister was a senior in high school and my brother was still in elementary school.
I never noticed until I posted this picture, that my mom was wearing blue jeans.
Probably a pair of mine.

This lady could get down and dirty or dress up and hob knob with the best.
A classy perfect ' lady of the house' who did what had to be done.
She was also the 'handy man.'
Don't remember her winning any prizes though.
Well maybe Mother of The Year, awarded by three very proud and inspired children.

Go here for the entertaining Sepia Saturday

Love old photos that show us at work and not dressed up for Sunday and the camera. What a job this was with that brush!! I am glad that paint rollers and spray did make it into our work space.

I guess there had to be another door out of that room as it takes a while for varnish to dry. The house we lived in had stone flagged floors but that did not stop the ones in the kitchen being painted where there were no rugs.
These days people have parquet floors, no varnishing for them.
Your mother must have been an amazing woman of whom you must have been very proud.

Varnishing the hardwood floors...now that's a hard job. Remarkable woman.

What an awesome picture!! Such an inspiration for sure!! She sounds amazing. I see where you get your "I can do anything" attitude!
I love this post! I would frame that picture for sure!

Most people wouldn't like being photographed in that position. I wonder what your mother thought of this photo.

Like Bob, my first thought was ‘I hope she didn’t paint herself into a corner’! My next thought was that your Mom would have a sore back after all that varnishing. She sounds a remarkable lady.

Being Mother of the Year to your own children is very high praise indeed.

Hard work indeed! She was a remarkable woman. Who would have guessed that her situation would soon become the norm for so many.

What a precious picture to have! it's these real life photos of moments at the time you might not have thought much of....but now later, especially like for me, now that my mother isn't with us any more...these are the best medicine a person can have!
