Today is day 6 of Mornings with Mary.
This is a photo of one of the many faces of Mary that hangs in the beautiful Motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Kentucky.
This is a tapestry.
It was given to the sisters many years ago as a gift and the tag on the frame is so dark it is not readable.
I don't know if the portrait is of tapestry also or just the image around it.
The next time I am there I will observe it more closely.

The tapestry must have taken a long time to complete and I can just imagine a person working on this for maybe years as a work of love.
Mary has been portrayed in every medium imaginable.
Paint, fabric, metal and I love to search for different examples of that.
If an artist wants to put their feelings about love and motherhood into a work, there is no better model than
Mary.
The look on Mary's face for her infant is of undying love.
In my understanding of Mary, even though she was gifted with outstanding love and understanding, she had no idea of what was to come for her Son and herself.
She just lived and loved each day to the fullest.
I pray for that virtue daily.

Now to prove that, if you go here you will find a glorious display of many Marys.

Your comments speak to me too.. 'all mothers i suspect' such a gift, a daily struggle to organize and yet not to control.. these posts bring with them so many truths so much wisdom - thank you. Funny too i always think of Europe when my mind goes icon hunting, i should perhaps take more time to look closer to home (at least North America :-)
What a beautiful tapestry!
Awesome photo of a beautifully created Virgin ~ Our Lady and yes I prayed big time to Our Lady to parent my son ~ He is doing well today ~ Have great devotion to her ~~ thanks, namaste, Carol (A Creative Harbor)
It had to take years to create this gorgeous tapestry. Thanks for sharing it.
Magnificent!
A true work of love!
Yes, that's a huge amount of work.
A good goal to strive for every day, that's for sure!
Beautiful - so peaceful.
This is another beauty...and I like your prayer...may we all try to be gentle with each other♥♥♥
I love the gentle and adoring way in which she holds her son, as if she knows in her heart what will happen and is cherishing each moment with him. There is such a deep bond between them here. Beautiful!

Your teaching about her not knowing what was to become of her and her son reminds us that Jesus called for his mother while on the cross. I can't imagine Mary's thoughts and feelings to have to witness such a sight. So strong and powerful, yet fragile and mournful. Virtues, all of them, in any human being, taught to us by this Blessed Virgin. Beautiful.
Peace
Mary was the perfect mom!
Thanks for stopping by today.
By doing a little poking around on Google Maps, I have discovered that Nazareth, Ky. is not all that far from The Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani, dear to me because that was the home of Father Louis, aka Thomas Merton. I remember him frequently, because even though I never met Merton, I did meet one of his former teachers from Columbia University, so I feel as though I have a spiritual connection to this gentle soul...
My Lady Comfort
thank you for this beatific offering of motherlove!
It is hard to believe that it is a tapestry-as it is so exquisite and detailed. I agree-it must've taken a long time to complete and truly an act of love.
