Happy Birthday dear daughter and Vintage Thingie Thursday

Happy Birthday
Dear, dear daughter.
We love you and are so proud of you.

Dad and Mom
Vintage Thingie Thursday

My mom has been gone for many years. I have her sewing box.
There are many spools of thread in there and that is the only thing I have ever used.
But recently I took a better look at what was in there.

These were my grandmothers.
I know the first item is a needle holder, a thimble. an awl, a marking roller and a sock darner.
There are three needles one of which I am not able to identify.
I do not know what the long thick curved needle is for.
Any ideas out there?

Go here for more Vintage Thingie Thursday.

HI. I enjoyed my visit. I love day lilly's too I have about 8 different varieties. Your grandmothers sewing tools are wonderful. I use a long thick needle for sewing thick leather or jean material. Blessings, Debbie

Beautiful treasures! The curved needle can be used for closing sacks, or if that can not be the case with your grandmother, then sewing upholstery or mattresses.

Some curved needles are used for upholstery, leather work, doll making and if you have had the opportunity to watch a doctor/surgeon at their 'stitchery' you'll notice their needles are curved as well. It's wonderful to have these momentos of you mother and grandmother.

Hi Peggy, Enjoyed seeing your sewing box. I have some of those things from Mike's mother too and wonder if the curved needle might be for darning socks

I bet it was for upholstery. I remember my gm and my mother both upholstering chairs and couches.
Thanks gals.

How wonderful you saved your mother's sewing box. I think the curved needle is used for upholstery. :-)

How wonderful that you still have your grandmothers sewing tools. I know that they use curved needles for upholstery, but yours looks wide too... I'm not sure what it's for.

A very happy birthday to your daughter!

I agree the curved needle is for upholstery. I love your sock darner. It makes fixing hand knit wool socks so much easier, because if you do it right, you're duplicating knit stitches and not sewing a seam to walk on. The sock eggs make that so much easier to accomplish.
