Magpie Tales #69

Such a beautiful prompt for
Magpie Tales

I had to give it a try.

The Ballad of Shelly Belle

Refrain:   Oh do you know the story of the prize named Shelly Belle.
She was taken from her sandy home to enhance a life too sad.

1) Someone reached down and picked her up and shook the sand away.
A bummer blew the sand away and shook her up and down.
She wished they would just go on by and let her enjoy this day.
Shelly did not want to end up as collector's afterthought.

2) They dropped her and she felt a kick and wanted to fight back.
What have I done to deserve this abuse
she thought rolling along the sand.
Someone was kicking her along the beach toward a tumbled down shack.
Oh no what was to happen to her at this early age.

3) Then they picked her up and added her to the shell gathering basket.
Oh no where am I going now and what will I see.
Shelly felt her life was over she would be left, as in a lonely casket.
Not to finish her life in giving joy to others.

4) She ended up on a rickety shelf in the room of a crippled girl.
A girl who could not see her but could feel her iridescent beauty
Shelly felt she had found a place free from the noisy whirl.
A place where she would be loved and she could still see the sea.

Refrain: Oh do you know the story of the prize named Shelly Belle.
She was taken from her sandy home
To enhance a life so sad.

A sad tale with a happy ending.

This reminds me of silver bells and cockle shells and pretty maids all in a row.
