Sepia Saturday
Honoring one of our armed forces men in our own family.

Dorothy M. Mattingly
The gentleman is my mother's youngest brother.
He served in the U.S. Navy in Rio de Janeirio.
I wish I had some of the postcards he sent home to his family.
I imagine they are long gone.

He had just returned from the service in 1945, met this beautiful lady named Dorothy and they were married in 1952.
I was about 15 and adored them both.
It was raining and you can see my sister Betty in the background on the left side and I am right behind her.
They are both in bad health now and live away from us with they son in another state.
Good bless America.

What a handsome couple!
That was rather a long courtshi; no wonder they looks so happy on their wedding day!
They both look very young. Or is it just me who's getting old?
Very sweet photo- God Bless our military heroes, then and now.
They say it's good luck when it rains on your wedding day. It sounds like Rio wouldn't be a bad place as a main port. I'm sure he had great stories to share.
They look so young!
great picture, they look a very stylish couple
Wow! Rio. What a nice place to be stationed. Lovely couple. Was she Brazilian by any chance. I've heard that American men usually brought home a brazilian woman.

Sorry to hear that they're in bad health now. What a lovely wedding that must have been.
What a great photo of two family members starting out on their lives together. Thanks for sharing it.
Had problems leaving a comment the other day - I'll give it another try. I love this photo - such a happy couple and a nice tribute to this fine soldier!
