Sepia Saturday- Saluting a US Navy Man

Sepia Saturday

Honoring one of our armed forces men in our own family.
George Leonard Edelen, Jr.
Dorothy M. Mattingly

The gentleman is my mother's youngest brother.
He served in the U.S. Navy in Rio de Janeirio.
I wish I had some of the postcards he sent home to his family.
I imagine they are long gone.

He had just returned from the service in 1945, met this beautiful lady named Dorothy and they were married in 1952.
I was about 15 and adored them both.
It was raining and you can see my sister Betty in the background on the left side and I am right behind her.

They are both in bad health now and live away from us with they son in another state.
Good bless America.

They both look very young. Or is it just me who's getting old?

They say it's good luck when it rains on your wedding day. It sounds like Rio wouldn't be a bad place as a main port. I'm sure he had great stories to share.

Wow! Rio. What a nice place to be stationed. Lovely couple. Was she Brazilian by any chance. I've heard that American men usually brought home a brazilian woman.

Such a beautiful tribute, Peggy. May all of our brave warriors be honored often.

nice tribute to this man. is it true tht when it rains on your wedding day, you'll have a good marriage?
then why do people always hope for great weather that day?

Had problems leaving a comment the other day - I'll give it another try. I love this photo - such a happy couple and a nice tribute to this fine soldier!
