Sepia Saturday # 75

SEPIA SATURDAY is a weekly meme which encourages bloggers to publish and share old images and photographs. All that is required is for contributors to post an old image (it doesn't have to be in sepia) and provide a few words in explanation. If you could provide a link back to the Sepia Saturday Blog and visit as many of the other contributors as you can, it would also be appreciated. There is no weekly theme, as such, but some people like to use the archive image published with the weekly call as a kind of theme. There is no requirement to adopt such an approach : the choice of image is entirely up to you. Once you have published your Sepia Saturday post, add a link to that post to the Linky List published each week and leave a comment to let everyone know you are joining in.

Our mom raised us three kids by herself and some help from her parents.
No one in our family ever had a car.
In 1964 after my sister and I were married she bought her first car.
It was green, not dark green, kelly green.
It was a 1955 Chevrolet.
She paid $400.00 for it.
My brother was still at home and in high school and we taught him how to drive in this car.
He still gets teased today about The Frog, they called it.

 Color of car.

Of course she took great care of this car and it served her well for several years.

Go here for other SS stories.

Flowers from our dear daughter today.

Thank you dear one.

this car photo reminds me of my uncle henry's car. it wasn't kelly green though. it was two toned - red on the bottom and cream on top. or vice versa.

My folks had a car much like that when they got married, although I don't know the color. Knowing my dad it was a Ford tho. :-)

but a question bothers my mind:

inquiring minds want to know!!

Howdy Peggy.
Green!!! I like this color and think a 1955 auto would be great fun to drive around these days.
My birth year is 1955....what a great year!
Have a super week-end and God bless,

Nowadays, a green car means something else altogether!

I was 18 in 1955; my mum and dad never owned a car. It was the 1960s before I learned to drive in a geen split screen Morris Minor. It didnt look like a frog although it hopped about a bit at times.

So powerless without our wheels no matter what color they are...I think my family had a car about that same color...although it was more like a lemon most of the time...as most cars were back then!

I'm thinking that you probably had a grand time teaching your brother to drive. ;) Cathy

Many of us have those "first car" stories, but I think your shade of green gets a special spot in the story book! We loved them and they got us where we wanted to go (usually)!

That is really really green.

My folks had a blue and white '56 Chevy. Still wish we had it. It was a convertible and when we moved to Hawaii it went along. It made the island even more magical.

That was a good year for Chevrolet. My father had a two-tone 1956 Chevrolet wagon that was pretty much the same shape as the 1955 model.

Now that reminds me of the same car that my father bought only it was light green. He thought it was a lemon and parked it out back after several years. When times got tough, he hauled it out again and put it on the road. It was over ten years old by that time. I remember being slightly embarrassed by it. Now I run an old car just as old and could not care any less. Thanks for the trip in the way back machine!

Reminds me of my honeymoon car that I posted about a few weeks (or maybe months) ago. I was embarrassed because it was two-tone, red and cream. I guess I was lucky it wasn't kelly green.
