Sepia Saturday-58- Phillip Martin Simms Mr. Football

 Sepia Saturday

HH and I were watching Phil Simms on a football program just recently and HH mentioned he has just seen Phil's mom and she had asked about me.
HH had worked with Phil's mom at General Electric in Louisville for many years.
We see her when she comes out here to visit her sister.

I remembered I had a picture of Phil and even though he is very much alive I decided to write about him on SS.
He was one of the finest kids we have ever known in our lives.

If you look up a bio of Phillip Martin Simms you will find about three different dates for his birth.
He was born 03 Nov. 1955 in the hospital in Lebanon Ky.
I remember it well.
There was no hospital in the little town of Springfield where we lived so everyone used the hospital 9 miles away.
It says he was raised in Louisville Ky. and he was, for the most part.
Phil's family, his mom Barbara and father Willie and   siblings
lived next door to me when I was about 15 years old. I baby sat him and some of his other young siblings.
He started school at St. Dominic's Catholic School in Springfield and moved with his family to Louisville sometime while he was in elementary school.
He attended Southern High School in Louisville and graduated in 1974 accepting a football scholarship to Morehead State University in Kentucky graduating in 1979.
The rest is history.
A fine man and family.

A fine tribute for a fine man. Does he know you've posted about him? You should let him know.

Kat When I decided to write about Phil I called his mom Bobbie and she said I could surely write about him. She said someone is always calling and she tells him about things but I am sure he is way above worrying about all that is written about him. We saw him when he was in Louisville for an honor for Catholic Schools Alumni which he refers to in the film.

Have to admit I have no idea who Phil Simms is, but it's nice to see something positive written about a public figure. Pretty rare these days.

QMM, I had to look to find out who he is but Jerry recognized him and the name. I tend to know only the ones from my Steelers, etc. How neat for you to know him and to be able to share this; I laughed at the video where he admits the nuns/teachers say, "Wow we never saw this coming!"

I did not recognize this person - not much of a sports fan - but what a nice tribute to him.

My first thought when I saw the title of your post was ... who? I don't know a footballer of that name. But then I sorted my footballs out and separated your football from our football and was able to read a lovely little piece dedicated to a sportsman and a friend
