This photo was taken at Easter in 1940.
I was 4 years old.
That is my loving uncle Dick, one of my mom's 5 brothers.
We lived right next to the church as this was taken on the church steps.
I think you can tell how much I loved this gentle man.

This was taken right before he went into the army.
He served in Alaska and had some great stories to tell of that far away land.
He had entered the seminary right out of grade school and when he graduated from high school he had decided he was not cut out to be a priest.
Uncle Dick married after he came back from WWII and he and his lovely wife Aunt Audrey had 9 children.
He died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 55.
He worked at our local post office and I would go by there everyday just to see him.
I so loved him.
He could play the piano by ear and we would have some fun times singing and dancing when he visited.
I am so grateful today for the lovely family heritage that I was blessed with.

You have got very fond memories of your uncle.I think this is wonderful.
It is also a lovely photo. A pity that he suddenly died so young. Sad.
Oh... what a lovely story made all the better because it's true!! What a legacy that dear man has left!

A special photo that clearly shows the shared love. Nice synopsis of his life and how blessed you were to have him those few years; 55 seems so young now, QMM. I like the way you have organized this blog at the top with headings; I need to do something similar, my different posts are getting away from me!
I love looking at old photos of my family. I wish I had more because it's important to know where we come from... thanks for sharing your family history with us.

What a great photograph and memories. He died so young. It's too bad you didn't have more years to spend with him.
He does look like a gentle man, and you are adorable! I'm just so sorry that he died so young; especially with so many children to miss him.
What a sweet post and nice memory of your uncle. I have four uncles and unfortunately don't know any of them as well as you knew yours.
