Well it is Sepia Saturday
Today is my birthday.
By the grace of God I am
73 years young.
I tried to dress this sad little picture up to make it a little happier looking.
This is me in 1952 when I graduated from the 8th. grade.
My grandmother, the one I told you was a professional seamstress, made this dress.
The flowers for my hair were from the white spirea bush that grew in my grandparents side yard.
Those are 2 of my best friends in the background.
Now it looks as if I have no arms but I am standing with my hands behind my back and the ruffle on the bodice is huge.
I guess the sun was in my eyes,
This dress was a light lavender organza and I thought it was the prettiest dress I had ever seen.
Our family had a wonderful Thanksgiving and I hope that all my SS pals did too.

In those days, they tended to make people face the sun for good exposure.
You dressed it up nicely.
Dear Queenie, You looked beautiful all dressed up!
Lavender is one of my favorite colors. It was one of my wedding colors.
HaPpY HaPpY Birthday to you!
So glad to know you and be able to wish you all the best.
We had a very pleasant Thanksgiving. I really wish I had ate more turkey. I had one little thin slice of turkey and should have had more. Grins.
God bless and may you have a wonderful Birthday,
Deanna
I did wonder about your arms for a minute. I'm glad they were behind you! My grandparents had a hugh spirea bush in their yard too.
Such an innocent time - you looked lovely.
Happy Birthday - God bless you! Happy Birthday to you! Lovely picture and great memories! Have a wonderful year ahead!
I'm glad you told the story behind the photo because I would have come up with a completely different scenario if I'd found this in an antique store. A whole screenplay could be written about that simple photo.
Happy birthday, your grandma was an excellent seamstress. I would love a dress like yours.
The photographer should have asked you to put your hands in front.
Happy Birthday! (a late)Happy Thanksgiving! And A Happy Sepia Saturday !
Happy, happy birthday - hope you have a blessed day Blessings, Peg
Happy Birthday! That's a lovely picture and I'm glad that you explained it so well so that I could see it in color.
Thanks for letting me know that you made the cranberry salad and liked it. Yes, it makes a big batch. Too bad about the celery haters as it adds that nice bit of crunch to it. Cooked celery is not my favorite either, but raw is terrific. Guess you don't have to make them any ants on a log. :D
Happy Birthday Sweetie!!!! Love the photo of you, what a stunning girl you are!!!! Fabulous dress, isn't amazing how our Grandmothers and Moms could whip up the most gorgeous dresses?
Hugs,
Margaret B
You looked very sweet, such a pretty dress.

A very happy birthday to you and to the year ahead. I wondered what happened to your arms in the photo so I am glad you explained it. I love the look of Christmas in KY on your blog header....you really don't get snow do you?
Such a pretty dress and I'm so glad you have arms!
Happy birthday and hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
You have a flair for dressing up photos and your grandmother had a flair for creating beautiful dresses. You look older than 8th grade in the photo.... Very lovely.
