Mae West.

I definitely know who Mae West was but I am pretty sure her movies were never shown in my little town theater.

In fact I have never seen any of her movies.

And yes she is very much quoted.

Week #3

Hedy Lamarr 

This is a new art challenge I have just found and this is already week #3

My rendition with pen and paint pens.

Ecstasy – Extase in Czech, Ekstase in German^[1] – is a Czech film made in 1933 by the Czech director Gustav Machatý. It stars Hedy Lamarr, credited under her original surname Kiesler, and Zvonimir Rogoz.
The film was highly controversial in its time largely because of a nude swimming scene. It is also perhaps the first non-pornographic movie to portray sexual intercourse,^[2] although never showing more than the actors' faces. It has also been called the first on-screen depiction of a female orgasm.

Don't remember ever seeing this film.
Of course I wasn't even born when it was made.
Hard to believe since I am older than dirt.

Many know Hedy Lamarr as a Hollywood legend – one of the most beautiful actresses to ever grace the silver screen. Yet all her beauty and glamor were only secondary to her brilliant mind. That is why Hedy Lamar is also known through another title: Inventor. In the 1940s she co-invented and patented an early form of frequency hopping technology that was revolutionary in its thought. This breakthrough concept would later forge the path for the development of modern wireless communication.


Born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler in Vienna in 1914, Hedy became an actress in the 1930s, appearing in a number of German and Czech films. Her husband, fellow Austrian Friedrich Mandl, was an arms manufacturer and – despite being part-Jewish – a Nazi sympathizer. In the Austria of the 1930s, with the rise of fascism and anti-Semitism, such choices often meant the difference between life and death. Hedy, a Jew herself, decided to leave her husband and her country. At a party one night, wearing all the expensive jewellery she possessed, she drugged her husband with the help of her maid, and fled Austria. She first went to Paris, then London, where she met Louis B. Mayer, co-founder of the famous MGM studios. Impressed by her beauty, Mayer offered her the chance to move to Hollywood, where she became a glamorous regular of films of the late '30s and '40s.

In 1939 Europe exploded into full-out war. By the summer of 1940, most of Europe was occupied by German troops, leaving only Britain and the Commonwealth, with economic support from the United States, to repel the Axis advance.
I found this art challenge very interesting not only for the art challenge but for all the interesting things I found out in researching these starlets.
So far I remember them but many of them made their movies before I was born or too young to see them. LOL

When I was involved in one of my favorite past times the other day I spotted something that I have been collecting for years.

Santa Claus
Not just any SC but ones that are made of unusual material and of different shapes and forms.
This is a Santa Fairy

I have no idea how old this item is but it is unlike any I have in my collection.

Now I have packed all my Santas up and they are intended for one of our daughter's family.
But I have been so used to looking for them I could not resist.


It is metal and glass. A tea light holder.

You can tell it has been used because of the black smoke stains on the inside of the wings.
