Sepia Saturday #87
Ran across this old article in my folder containing old newspaper clips and things from my career as a nurse in a public relations position.
These Leadership Classes are held in Ky. cities and possibly other states each year to introduce folks in new positions to all that is going on in the county.
It lasts 6 weeks and each week a different department or aspect of community life plays host and networking and learning is made fun.
The beginning of each class starts with a retreat at a fun place in Ky.
In this picture our retreat was at
Shaker Village Inn at Pleasent Hill, Ky., an authentic restored shaker community.
The food is outstanding and there are about 100 rooms available including entire houses such as the one we had for our retreat.
We did our classes and slept here but walked to the central dining commons for meals.
It was amazing.
In this photo from the newspaper we were playing reverse roles with the man portraying Dolly and the women acting as male admirers.
We were singing "Hello Dolly" and using lampshades for our hats.
Each team had a matter of a few minutes to meet, plan a skit and put it on.
The only props we were allowed to use were items already in that room.
We won 1st place for our efforts.
Yours truly is 2nd from the left.
The is a play on 'romance' for Alan's theme.
LOL

You were really shakin it in that village.
Congratulations on your first prize win. Romance can be felt in many ways. In this case, it was meeting, organizing something together, and enjoying yourselves....way to go, should we all be so spontaneous!!!
Role reversal- what a great idea! It looks like you had real fun. Whenever I’ve taken part in role play activities I’ve found it less than enjoyable; this looks much more fun.
I never was a fan of these leadership/management games. In Norway we got much more out of a weekend in a hytte up in the mountains when you mixed with others with whom you might not normally have dealt with at work.
Moments like these in our life, is the best time ever! Great photo too!
I agree Bob these were not folks I knew. They were from all different sections of the county. I was the only one there from my company. I agree too that those types of situations have more value. We were exposed to the government, religious, medical, business and financial. Spent an entire day at a dairy farm. We meet all the VIPS in the town and county and had lunch with them and chances to talk face to face with folks we might not have had an opportunity to meet. At the end of the leadership program we were responsible for planning and executing the next years program. We have an active alumnae of the program.
How great to have fun and learn all at once
If you enjoyed this, then I hope you had a grand time. That's all that matters.
Would you be so kind to leave a comment on my BLOG ONLY, for the Miracle Makeover fund drive. Charlie, 8 yr. old, & his story are fabulous. Every comment brings us a $1 for the next person that will be sponsored.
Have a beautiful weekend.
Hugs,

It looks as though you all entered into the spirit of the thing and had great fun.
My company tries to do these types of leadership activities and team building games, but what I have noticed is that so many teams are completely dysfunctional, they don't want to leave their comfort zones to try new things. It usually backfires unfortunately. I now have Hello Dolly in my head too, ha ha.
I'm all for swapping roles in aid of fun and romance! LOL
Fortunately "Hello Dolly" is not going through my head. As soon as I read Shaker I thought of the Copland piece Appalachian Spring in which he used the Shaker tune "Simple Gifts." So I thank you for the reminder of that tune. Now to dig out the album.
Everyone in the picture appears to be enjoying themselves! Enjoyed this, thank you.
what a trooper!!
singing "hello dolly" with a lampshade as a prop...
isn't there a video of this somewhere???
