Happy Hallows eve. Enjoy the fun

Happy Hallows eve to everyone.

From one pumpkin to another!!!!!!!

A woman was asked by a coworker, 'What is it like to be a Christian?'

The coworker replied, 'It is like being a pumpkin.'  God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you.  Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff.

He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed.  Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.'

This was passed on to me by another pumpkin.  Now it's your turn to pass it to other pumpkins.

I liked this enough to send it to all the pumpkins in my patch.

Sepia Saturday #98

Following Alan's theme about buses here is my first experience with one.

In 1956 right after high school  I went to a work training program 10 miles from my home, as an x-ray technician, in a nearby hospital.
Since we didn't have a car and it was my first job I did not have one either.

My mode of transportation was The Greyhound Bus.
The one I would ride each day left from the
Greyhound terminal in Louisville, Kentucky.

As far as I was concerned, an unwanted sign of the times.

I would walk the couple of blocks from my home to a Standard Oil station which was the stop in my town,
to board the bus.

This station was run by a nice young man who was a friend to every one. He was married and had a couple of children. Little did I know he was the brother of the man I was to marry in 1960.

A 1950's bus.

The bus would stop along the country highway and pick up passengers if it went by their house.

When the bus arrived in the town where I worked it just so happened it went right past the the hospital where I worked and the bus driver would drive through the parking lot and let me out.

After all I was one of the most faithful riders.
He went on about his appointed rounds and at 3PM in the afternoon the Greyhound showed up to fetch me home.

About 2 years later I bought my first car.
Used of course. A 1949 Pontiac and that was the end of my bus riding career.
Paid $75.00
Mine was not quite this sharp looking but it was the same color.
After about 1 month the brakes went out. My friend at the Standard Oil station, my future brother-in-law, fixed them for me.

Friday Shoot Out

Friday Shoot Out
theme
Creepy Crawlies

Well it was Thursday night and I had no photos for Creepy Crawlie Week.

So I creeped out onto the back deck and switched the light on real quick and found this on the outside of the kitchen window.
Yuck

Our yard man was just here yesterday and I had asked him to sweep down all the windows and eaves  for cobwebs.
Looks like he left me one creepy crawly.

Bet he is gone now.
HH did his spray thingie after he heard me scream

"EEK"

Now here is something a little more comely looking and pleasant to the eye.

Fall decor around the place.

Scarecrow in bittersweet
Metal jack-o-lantern with fall leaves
Allium in a tiny bouquet
Pottery made by a friend from Mexico with fall leaves.

Oh the joys of fall.
The joys of friends.

Go here for more FSO, be prepared to see creepy crawlies.

her challenge. The button is on my sidebar.
I need a little poke sometimes to remind me to be grateful for all the small things that make life a blessing.

Tea Talk Thursday and Share the Joy

Every other person I run into has a cold, raspy throat and sneezing.

Well thank goodness I had a joyful day yesterday cause I feel bad today.
I caught the cold, raspy throat and sneezing and have 2 ear aches.

But joy of joys, yesterday had breakfast with my beautiful red head friend.
My Cyndie.
My dear dear friend.
We worked together as intake nurses for years actually putting together the intake department of our home health agency.
She still works for that agency but since it is out of town she never has time to visit.

I so hope you have a friend such as I do.

To have been raised in such totally different circumstances I can never believe how we two share such similar souls.

Literature, art, music, crossword puzzles, the Bible, with such totally different interpretations but we found our common ground and did we ever learn from each other.

I was the first Roman Catholic she ever knew and she was the first Seventh Day Adventist I ever knew.
We could not believe the differences we had been taught about each other.
Shame, shame, shame.
We are so glad we grew up to know the same Jesus.

We have even attended church together.

Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.
Albert Camus

This quote is the favorite of both of us.

Having..............Green Tea since I feel I need something healing for my head and throat.
Also some Alka Seltzer Plus
In.................Good sized mug since I love the feel of my hands around the big mug. Love the picture of the fox among the trees on that mug.
Feeling.......As I said above got a cold coming on. Gonna try to keep it from getting any worse.
May need a Hot Toddy later today. Woo

Thinking about....... what a hard time my friend Cyndie is having in trying to drive over 100 miles a day to a job that she has come to hate. Nothing like it used to be. The company is like so many, laying off folks and putting more work on the RNs than is safe.
She has 3 more years before she can retire.
We prayed together yesterday and brainstormed about some different job situations for her.
We prayed for all those who have lost their jobs and especially all the nurses who have worked so hard to get their education and as some, nearing retirement, are finding it hard to replace the type of job they had.

Doing, not my usual thing.

 Doing my own thing
Well not my usual thing.

Finally learned how to get a video to my blog.

Now I know you are going to laugh, just laugh with us.
I had nothing to drink or on any medicine expect my BP pills.
The beautiful young woman that passes by near the end of the video, is one of our beautiful daughters.

This was the first time I had ever done karaoke.
I think my kids hope it is my last.
When I first started singing I had no idea I was being taped. Once I got started singing though, I couldn't stop.
HH and most of my family were seated in the direction I was singing.

I don't hear well anymore and I didn't even know I couldn't sing. I think God loves for us to sing even when we can't.
What a WooHoo day for us all.
LOL
I love it.

Now this young lady, gd Abby can sing.
She has a sour throat and a little raspy but she can belt out a tune.
Whoever was taping quit too soon.
Abby did some great singing we didn't get on tape.

Video done years ago shows up on You Tube.. What a wonderful surprise

Lordy, lordy look what I found on You Tube.

This is from an old video I made many years ago for my children's Christmas gift one year.
It is where 5 of our children grew up and our youngest daughter lived just a few months before me moved to a new home.

Brings tears to my eyes.
I just happened across it.
Didn't even know our son had done it.

It was put on You Tube by our son who calls himself a You Tuber.

Click on "You Tube" on the right to see on large screen.

Sepia Saturday #97

Alan's Sepia Saturday theme is children should do as they are told. LOL
What a great topic, at least that is my interpretation.

This photo is from The Nelson County Genealogist magazine that members receive quarterly from the
Nelson Country Genealogical Roundtable of which we are members.

Mabel, Cecil and Boyce Drake circa 1900.
The perfectly groomed and outfitted children are representative of the type of photo made of children of a wealthy family in our county around the turn of the century.
The expression on Mabel's face pretty much says
"I don't want to be here."
Probably grew up to be a rebel.
The beautiful boy, Boyce, appears very submissive and  baby Cecil is just hanging on.

They are beautiful children and their clothing is obviously that of an upper class family.
Indeed the Drake family are still prominent in that part of our county.
The chair is typical of those used in these types of photographs of the period.
I was unable to find who the photographer was.
The text under the photo says it is a studio photograph.

Share the Joy and Tea Talk Thursday

Having family get togethers and seeing the young and old enjoying life at it's best.

HH's oldest brother 83, joining in the music making.
This man is amazing.
He still works 2 days a week as a salesman for a huge tire chain in the city.
Attends Churchill Downs racing everyday that the horses are running.

He just radiates joy and it is contagious.

The youngest members of the family.
HH's niece and family.
Feeling the warmth and joy.

Having.............MAXWELL HOUSE COFFEE

In...........my regular coffee cup.

Feeling.............grateful, very snug and cozy in my nice warm home with my HH especially since the rain and cooler weather was come to us in the form of fall.

Thinking about..........all of those folks out there who do not have a warm and cozy place to be in this world. Doing what I can to help in our small way. Involved in "Coat-a-kid" in our community.

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither
do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand,
and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine
before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

A Closer Look

Where are you, my heart?
Where are you, my soul?
I cannot find you any more.
I looked at him and I looked at her.
No, that's not what I want to see.

I searched down deep and poked around.
It hurt so much I turned back.
Halfway back I looked at nee.
No, not Mrs. or Miss could I see.

I only see what I had tried to be.
As I backed out of the hole I dug,
I heard myself say
"Here I am!"
"Look at me!"

"Here I am?"
Where did that spring from, this searching day?
I looked asky and I looked aground.
Nowhere could I be found.

I turned and saw a face aglow,
Absent of all worry and woe.
Because I looked just when I did,
Straight ahead.
Now I am found.
