Sepia Saturday #63

My Sepia Saturday is about a team that my mother worked with in the 1940's

In 1940 this was the office team of the
Washington County Extension Agent.
This picture was taken on the side porch of the courthouse in our town where their office was at that time.

t issues and

Cooperative Extension System Offices. The Cooperative Extension System is a nationwide, non-credit educational network. Each U.S. state and territory has a state office at its land-grant university and a network of local or regional offices. These offices are staffed by one or more experts who provide useful, practical, and research-based information to agricultural producers, small business owners, youth, consumers, and others in rural areas and communities of all sizes.

NIFA is the federal partner in the Cooperative Extension System. It provides federal funding to the system and, through program leadership, helps the system identify and address curren
problems.

The gentleman on the front right was
Troll Young, County Extension Agency.
My mom had been his secretary since before she married in 1935.
When this photo was taken in Aug 1940
my mom had resigned her position and had given
birth to her second daughter in April.
The lady next to Mr. Young was his new secretary.
My mother had planned to be a stay at home mom.
I don't remember the names of any of the other folks.

Mr. Young was a fine upstanding gentlemen and great in his job.
I started school with his son and we attended school together until the 8th grade.

When i was 16 years old, that would have been in 1953, I was permitted to help out in this office while his secretary was on vacation.
I thought that was the greatest thing going.
I was taking typing in high school and could do a little shorthand.
We got the job done, so Mr. Young said.
Growing up in my town was fun.
I was a blessed young girl.
Surrounded by fine people and great teachers.

On a sad note our family will bury our beloved Reverend
Father Richard Edelen. age 64, this weekend.
He passed away yesterday from a debilitating chronic lung disease.

He was born to my mom's brother Richard and his wife Audrey, the following year my mom gave birth to my only brother, age 65.
There was only 9 months difference
Dickie was my first cousin and I thought of him as my cousin brother.
I remember  babysitting these two boys when I was 12 years old.
They attended school and graduated from HS together.
My brother went into the army, married and had 2 children
Dickie, my cousin brother, entered the seminary and was ordained a priest in 1975.
May he rest in peace.
We will miss him terribly.

It was a good thing the camera got this shot because this is the way I saw it after having my eyes dilated ooooooooo.

Vintage Thingie Thursday and Tea Talk Thursday

Vintage Thingie Thursday
Tea Talk Thursday

This is a paper mache sculpture of a aged Mexican woman.
She is very old and work worn looking, carrying two water bags.

I have had this for some time and can't even remember where I got it.
On the bottom there is a tag

El Aboroda Mano-Hecho en Mexico EB M.R. Xalisco

The art work is exquisite.
I found one of a Mexican worker on eBay with a bid of $100.00

Having---Black tea by Lipton with lemon in my favorite
cobalt blue cup.
1/2 banana.

Feeling------ blessed on this Thursday. I believe I am getting the idea on how to handle the diabetes.
Thinking about how wonderful it is to sit in the sun and hear the birds and turn my fish pond on and listen to the fountain.
Life is good.

Magpie Tales #54

Magpie Tales

Willow's prompt

Give It Up

Each day the sun comes out and stays
Maybe one minute, maybe ten
Then fades away.
The clouds are unwavering in their fight to
keep her hidden.
Sometimes gray, sometimes black.
The wind is on the side of the sun.
Pushing shoving to move them to another place.
Sticking little prickles in them trying to drain them of their load.
Get it over with.
Pour out the rain, the snow.
Get it over with.
Can't you see the earth is praying, begging for sunshine.
The people are tired, discouraged.
Winter was long and harsh like a uncaring landlord
not caring there is no work or money coming in.
The earth begs for the sun, to turn things to production again.
The crops, the people themselves need you so bad.

Mosaic Monday- Spring is coming and Jingle Poetry Potluck Monday

Mosaic Monday

Soon we will be out photographing new blooms and flowers.
I took my walk today around our property looking for signs of the soon to be.

Not much color, but the signs are surely there.
Left
1) Day lilies (Will be the last to bloom but will last the longest.)

2) Rhododenron (This will be the first to bloom. It is on the east side of the house, protected from the late hot sun of the day. Just where it likes to be.)
3) Tulips (These will be in full bloom by Easter.)
On the right
the beautiful distinctive river birch.
It will soon shed most of the loose bark and take on
a smoother trunk.
I love it like this though.

Just to add a little color, here is a picture of the Valentine's Day gift from one of our sons.
A beautiful quilted bag and hat by
Donna Sharp.
She is a well know quilter in our area.

Jingle Poetry Potluck Monday

It's Free

I really cannot write a poem
I just put the words out there.
If they fall on someone's heart
Or saddened soul somewhere,
I feel I have shared my heart
And that's the best of me.

The gift of giving love away is really a gift to me.
The more you give the more it comes right back.
It doesn't cost one thin dime or even a single peso.
It comes from on high like the ray of sun that I love so.
Throw it away
It comes right back.

Go here for the fun of Jingle Poetry

So here is love to you.
P Jones 2011

Here is the painting I did for my beautiful gd Abby.
She told me pink, green and all bright colors.
She is a fun loving spirit.
I even did my first attempt at painting a person.
She loves it.

The sun is shining. Alleluia

Sepia Saturday #62

It is Sepia Saturday
Pop over and see some interesting, informative and learn a little about the  world of sepia photography.
My entry today is not about persons but an interesting post card that was included in a group I purchased recently at my favorite antique shop.

This card is very interesting to me.

First, I love anything European.
The title Auld Brig O'Doon at Ayr
struck a note with me in the name of a movie I saw many years ago.
"Brigadoon"

Brigadoon is a musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. Songs from the musical, such as "Almost Like Being in Love" have become standards.
It tells the story of a mysterious Scottish village that appears for only one day every hundred years, though to the villagers, the passing of each century seems no longer than one night. The enchantment is viewed by them as a blessing rather than a curse, for it saved the village from destruction. According to their covenant with God, no one from Brigadoon may ever leave, or the enchantment will be broken and the site and all its inhabitants will disappear into the mist forever. Two American tourists, lost in the Scottish Highlands, stumble upon the village just as a wedding is about to be celebrated, and their arrival has serious implications for the village's inhabitants.
The original production opened on Broadway in 1947 and ran for 581 performances. Brigadoon then received a West End production opening in 1949 that ran for 685 performances, and many revivals followed. A 1954 film version starred Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse. A 1966 television version starred Robert Goulet and PeterFonda

Something many of you may know.

Another interesting thing to me, is for several years I have been working crossword puzzles.
Ayr
has been the answer many times in a puzzle.
I could never remember a three letter city in Europe.

There are a lot of answers like that. Some of them I remember and just put the answer in never knowing for sure what it means.
Well eventually I find out.
Finding this card has now solidifies the town Ayr in my crossword puzzle brain bank.
LOL

This image I found on the internet.
A photochrome print circa 1890-1900.
