Mosaic Monday

Mosaic Monday
with
Mary

 Skies are cloudy
Days are gray.
Makes one feel a little dowdy.
Soon, some color, I pray,
Will be coming our way.

So tired of posting snow and ice and holding my breath, there is no snow on the ground here, today.
But not much color either.
Had to go to the archives for these.

Folks check out the music widget at the top of my sidebar.
This is a new album my our Ima Weed's very talented son.
He has a band Conch Republic Band and plays in Key West and his specialty is Jimmy Buffet music.
This however is his own selection of music that hightlights his instrumental talents.
My favorite is Begin The Beguine and I like Honky Tonky too. LOve it.
He plays a 6 stringed ukelele in these selections.

The Lord's Day

I must say the sun has been shining today.
I have done enough whining about the cloudy I must say thank you Lord for the sunshine.
The night is far gone and the day is almost here.
Let us then drop the  works and deeds of darkness and
put on the full armor of light.

Roman 13:12
Before your feet touch the floor in the morning, put on the full armor of God with which you can quench all the fiery darts of the enemy. Put on the belt of truth, the
breastplate of righteousness, and the readiness of the gospel of peace.
Don't let the devil steal your peace in the morning. Start talking to God before you even tet out of bed. Tell Him,
"I love You, Lord, and I need Your help today. Please strengthen me to walk in the fruit of the Spirit. Help me walk in love all day long. Help me to keep my thoughts on You, Lord.

Sepia Saturday #59

Found this while doing some genealogy the other evening.
I had been notified of additional information to my tree by
Ancestry.com
This popped up when I entered Honora O'Flynn and William Logsdon.

St. Pauls' Church is located in downtown Baltimore, MD. Built in 1692, it is the church where my 6th great-grandparents, Honora O'Flynn married William Logsdon in 1723. The story surrounding Hanora is that she was bought for her steerage from Ireland on the Baltimore docks for one hogshead of tobacco. The Church is the oldest in Baltimore, built in 1692, an historic site.It is said that she was captured in Ireland and her father was King Edward O'Flynn. There were many kings in Ireland and of course they all were fighting all the time. She was called the "Captive Princess.."
 Additional information I found.

The History of King Edward O' Flynn of Ireland

In the 1500-1600's, Ireland was ruled by several Kings each with his own kingdom. Each of the Irish Kings (clans) were unhappy about paying taxes to England and when the King of England changed the religion from Roman Catholic to The Church of England, Episcopalian, (the King wanted to divorce his Queen and since it wasn't allowed in the Catholic Church he changed the country's religion) several Irish Kings refused to conform. British troops were sent into Ireland to force the issue and a war began. When the British would defeat one of the Kingdoms, they would burn, kill subjects, and kidnap young women to send to America as wives for the colonist. One of these young women was a daughter of the Irish King of the O'Flynn clan, Honora Mary O'Flynn. The red haired Irish Princess, Honora O'Flynn, a vibrant young woman and pious Catholic, was kidnapped and transported to America with many other young women and became the wife of William Logsdon in 1702 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Baltimore, Maryland. There are several texts that have the story of Honora O'Flynn as well as being listed in county records in Maryland.. History of the England / Ireland wars is well documented and young Irish women were kidnapped for America wives. There is undoubtably an untold and unknown story which can be assumed and associated with King Edward, who came to America ( in search of his beloved daughter perhaps ? ), and settled in Carroll Co., Maryland near William & Honora. However I could find no other picture than the one shown above. The Logsdon families eventually moved to Washington County Kentucky where my grandmother Mary Elizabeth Logsdon, daughter of Charles Thomas and Margaret Willett Logsdon. married my grandfather George L. Edelen. They were the parents of my mother Margaret Ellen Edelen.

Vintate Thingie Thursday - Teapot cozied up

Today is Vintage Thingie Thursday and I am late getting my post up.

This is a vintage teapot given to me by one of my daughters for my birthday many  years ago.
I may have featured it before.
It is John Haddock & Sons
England
Royal Vitreous.

Every time I use this I burn my hand trying to hold the handle and pour the tea.

Several folks have told me that I need a teapot cozy.
Well, after getting into crocheting again around Christmas I have run into many great patterns.
Also I had lots of yarn left over.
So using this cotton yarn, so that it could be washed, I made a cozy for this teapot.

Ties around the spout hold the cozy on.

Ties across the handle help secure the cover on.
The strap goes through the handle and buttons on.
Enlarge to see the button.
Friends Forever.
I only had the yellow and white cotton yarn but I would like pink and white for this teapot, so I need to go shopping.
The pattern is for 4, 6 or 8 cup teapots.

Been a lot of tea drinking going on around here with all the cold, snow and dreary days.
Tea is good for the body and soul.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I will make you a cozy.
This cozy could be decorated with charms, beads, flowers or any other attachable cutsey thing.
Leave a comment if interested and we can e-mail about the specifics.

A Walk in The Snow

Walking for Answers

I walked alone in the snow today,
Thinking about what things to say.
Things to say to help you cope
With purpose that is beyond our scope.
Beyond our scope to know and understand.
Where it will take us in years to come.
Will it be easy or will it be hard?
Can we make it or will we bend til we break.
I didn't come up with any great thoughts.
Just a big hug to draw you close.
To walk with you to the final post,
My darling child.

Last week's art project.

Will line this with a soft velvet for a sweet little girl.

A bragging mom

Well you know how bragging mom's are.
We are proud of all the things our kids do.
But in the world of good food
not much can beat an authentic
New York Cheese Cake.
Son # 1 is a great chef.
Go to his blog, listed below, for a great video and recipe by this Kentucky boy transplanted in New York for years with IBM and learned to cook at The Culinary Institute of America, transplanted in Texas with IBM a few years ago and still there.

The recipe will be found on his blog site if you go

Lord, What's Next?

Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths.
Guide me in Your truth and faithfulness and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for you do I wait all the day long.

Sepia Saturday-58- Phillip Martin Simms Mr. Football

 Sepia Saturday

HH and I were watching Phil Simms on a football program just recently and HH mentioned he has just seen Phil's mom and she had asked about me.
HH had worked with Phil's mom at General Electric in Louisville for many years.
We see her when she comes out here to visit her sister.

I remembered I had a picture of Phil and even though he is very much alive I decided to write about him on SS.
He was one of the finest kids we have ever known in our lives.

If you look up a bio of Phillip Martin Simms you will find about three different dates for his birth.
He was born 03 Nov. 1955 in the hospital in Lebanon Ky.
I remember it well.
There was no hospital in the little town of Springfield where we lived so everyone used the hospital 9 miles away.
It says he was raised in Louisville Ky. and he was, for the most part.
Phil's family, his mom Barbara and father Willie and   siblings
lived next door to me when I was about 15 years old. I baby sat him and some of his other young siblings.
He started school at St. Dominic's Catholic School in Springfield and moved with his family to Louisville sometime while he was in elementary school.
He attended Southern High School in Louisville and graduated in 1974 accepting a football scholarship to Morehead State University in Kentucky graduating in 1979.
The rest is history.
A fine man and family.

Friday Shoot Out-Black and white

Friday Shoot Out
is not gonna happen like I had planned.
Computer trouble.

Theme Black and White
As I have mentioned several times I do not go to town very often.
Usually at least once and sometime twice.
This is all I have seen for two week.

On the road to town last week.
On the road to town this week.

On my back deck.
Two lonesome chairs.

Looking at us looking at them through our kitchen window.
They seem happy as long as the feeder is full.

The lay of the land everywhere I look.
It is a beautiful time even if I am just admiring through the window.
The sun is shining will get out this PM
but it is cold in Kentucky
